 Mom Starts Toy Rental Business
Mom Starts Toy Rental Business
After scouring the Internet to fill her house with only the best toys for her infant twin sons, Lori Pope hated to watch the clutter build as the boys lost interest. If you can rent movies, video games and even handbags online, she thought, why not toys? picked by MandolinOrange 2 years ago

Thank you! I was thinking the exact same thing. I am a hyper germ phobe! And $28.99 a month for 4 toys would get expensive very fast. Yes, my kids have WAY WAY toooooooo much, but we just shift them around every so often, and give toys away to charity around birthday's and Christmas to make room for new ones. I don't think we are spending as much as she would be charging each month. I don't buy toys that often.

She Chlorox Wipes all the toys... Yeah... I don't think so, not for my kid. I would have hoped for a sterilizing bath of 250degree water that would leave no room for doubt. Then again, it's no different than the toys that they used to play with at preschool or going to the local park and playing on the playground equipment.

Seems like a very, very lawsuit liable company though.

parentally, I think the onus is on me to make sure the toys are sterilized before play. Just in the shipping process alone, shrink wrapped or not. And I agree with tragluk that it's similar to toy sharing at daycare.

Having spent a large chunk of change on our nieces this year and seeing they could barely fit another toy in their room as it was, I think this is a pretty keen idea. :)

Agreed.

You use Chlorox wipes to clean up a sink after clean, adult friends visit, not for germ-ridden, nose-picking, butt-scratching little kids!!

Ewww... Sharing toys is a great concept, but so gross. Where's the first thing they go? The mouth. This is disease trouble waiting to happen.

Thank you all for taking the time to give feedback about the BabyPlays Toy Rental Program. Being a mom of 16 month old twins, I am very concerned about germs and a clean environment. First, let me say that we no longer use clorox to sanitize our toys. We use a 100% natural non-toxic product that is effective in killing 99.99% of house hold germs. Each toy is thoroughly sanitized, before sealing it to keep it germ free while on our shelves. In addition, the life span of 99% of bacteria on a hard surface is less than 48 hours. It takes us longer than that to complete the cleaning, wrapping and shelving process. People who use the BabyPlays program LOVE it and say that they and their children are really enjoying the fresh variety toys that we offer. I am happy to answer any questions that anyone may have.
Warm Regards, Lori Pope

...whoa.

We make comments about the possible concerns, and.. Poof. Babyplays comes in and talks to us about it. That was.. well.. damn.

Internet at it's finest. I can't imagine some of the bigger companies (Microsoft.. IBM.. GE.. Exxon..) coming into our little community and responding to us. That was really, wow.

It is good to know that you've changed your sterilization methods and that you've researched the issue which parents are the most concerned with. My boy is much too old for this type of service but it great to see the inventors spirit still alive.

You know, I'm a mother of 4 sons. I'm 40 years old and I have never participated in a blog before. But, since this little idea of mine turned into a big idea, I became very concerned about what people thought and were saying about the program. I love children and am passionate about family life. I really believe that a beautiful family life means taking special time with our kids each day (no matter how many we have). When our kids are little, this usually means sitting on the floor and playing with toys. I started this business because it truly felt that it would boost family playtime and possible bring families closer together. I hope that the business will net enough customers to get to the break even point soon. But, no matter what happens, I feel like I am making a difference and I love that. Each day you will see me in my tennies and jeans, cleaning toys, and reviewing outgoing orders. I take so much pride in what I do and work so hard to make sure people are happy. Thanks for writing back. Warm Regards, Lori Pope
