 Shroud of Turin in High-Def
Shroud of Turin in High-Def
A huge 12.8 billion-pixel image was made of the linen, on which the smudged outline of the body of a man is indelibly impressed. The image was made following a Vatican request to obtain the most detailed reproduction of the yellowing ancient cloth. The technology allows a level of scrutiny of the linen as never achieved before. picked by MandolinOrange 2 years ago

"....But shroud scholars, known as sindonologists, have always argued that no medieval forger could either have produced such an accurate fake or anticipated the invention of photography."

Sure and no one could have built the pyramids without mechanized equipment either.

Why write an article on a huge picture, and then only include a tiny, cropped, picture?

Is it available online somewhere?

Yep - here.

Except I think you have to buy it.

EDIT - that's not the one in the article.

I like how they talk about this cloth like it is anywhere near old enough to be from that time period.

In addition, if it were real, everyone should be slightly worried since it would be proof of an actual zombie.

Gimme more HD jesus related images on the net! Woo!

I looked into it, and the original carbon dating has been disproved - apparently the bit of cloth that the owners handed over wasn't from the shroud, or something.

If it were real though, far from being proof of zombieism, I think it would just be proof that Jesus was a very, very sweaty man indeed.

My favourite theory is that it was done by DaVinci and is a self portrait - he had supposedly invented photography but feared that he would get in trouble with the church if he did such a thing so he made this instead, taking the chance that they'd buy into it and openly promote his "photograph".

DaVinci allegedly used a "camera obscura" which purportedly led to the invention of th camera. He didn't actually invent a camera.

Nevertheless, it isn't difficult to create a negative image using chemicals, sunlight/darkness and some medium (fabric, paper, papyrus, etc.) It's even conceivable that this could have been done before A.D.

Further, many people were hung on crosses (or stakes depending on your take on this) back in those days. Jesus, supposedly, was hanging there with two other people (a thief or maybe they both were, not going to look it up). Assuming this is age appropriate and it's not a forgery or fraud, how in the hell do we know it's Jesus and not some thief who had a loving family who shrouded him up?

And, assuming it is Jesus (far fetched belief I think), does this prove anything about the life of the man except that he was (possibly, because even that's not evident) nailed to a cross?
