 Ben Stein is Awesome
Ben Stein is Awesome
Ben Stein is producing a new movie about the darwin - creation debate and how a specific group of scientists are taking heat for their views. It looks interesting. picked by cheeselog1234 2 years ago

I'm a huge fan of Ben Stein. Funny and smart is always a good combo.

I'm a staunch evolutionist, but I'd love to watch a movie about *evidence* for how the divine is built into our DNA. Being that I follow the trail of evidence to find my beliefs, I could even be swayed if the evidence is good.

I really hope this movie isn't just, "wah, wah, they keep making fun of our 'intelligent design' theory."

Yeah, I thought that statement was intriguing as well.

I also liked the statement about how people who get defensive when critiqued on their beliefs do so b/c they are insecure (or something like that). It's a good point although not applicable to every case of course...

OMFG, I hate Ben Stein SO much. He is such a right-wing tool.

I have been totally anti ever since I read THIS: (sent it to Snopes so you wouldn't all say he didn't really write it)

THEN he wrote THIS in defense of Bush's ridiculously inept and probably criminally negligent actions after Katrina here:

He was an adviser to Richard Nixon (the SECOND most corrupt president ever), he denied the existence of Woodward and Berstein's 'Deepthroat' insider who helped them bring Nixon down (in an attempt to discredit them), and is also a hardcore pro-lifer.

This moron actually DENIES any sort of evolution. He's got a frickin' LAW DEGREE from YALE and yet he can't think things through logically?

Oh yeah, and he's a disgrace to my religion since he sent his son to Presbyterian University. He is just another right wing hypocrite and I for one will avoid his 'documentary'.

Sidenote:

HERE'S the debate -

Side 1) We have historical evidence using fossils and carbon dating that descent and modification has and still is happening.

Side 2) He has a 2000 year old book that says the world was made in 7 days and that a bearded guy up in the sky made everything about 4000 years ago.

And I quote a bumper sticker I saw the other day: "We have the fossils. We win."

Yikes. Hadn't seen that side of him.

It's fairly obvious from the trailer that he thinks he's got the whole argument figured out and that Darwinists are running scared.

At the very least, it got me looking twice at the trailer. I mean, "Darwinists running scared" is kind of like someone saying, "Look, after all these years, the sky really IS orange." It might make me take a quick look and then move on again with a smile on my face.

At the least it will be entertaining. I think that's what you're saying Boom.

The snopes link is not very surprising. It's written from the point of view of a person who believes in God and is fed up with the idolatry of celebrities. I thought it was entertaining because I too could give a flying f**k about Nick and Jessica, or Marc and JLo or whoever is topping the headlines for the day.

It's also written as an attack to anyone who isn't Christian and has to grow up watching everyone else getting Christmas and such, and who BEN STEIN claims is the reason there aren't x-mas trees in courthouses and sh*t. HE'S A LAWYER AND YET HE IS ARGUING AGAINST THE SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE!! AAAARRRGGGHHH!!!

This doesn't look remotely interesting. It looks like the same bs story that the religious wrong has been trying to force feed us for years, except with a new twist, one that he may have picked up from being a right-wing water boy and that is the "fear if you are religious the atheists will make you lose your job, your home your family, your friends, your dog and probably your hair". Since this country is 70% Christian it's hard to believe the few atheists (and that's not 30% just atheist, that's 30% everything else, jewish, muslim, buddhist, daoists and so on) that the small percentage of atheists have much sway. Maybe we're all just getting sick of the living in fear. If they're not shoving a war down our throats it's some imaginary character with lightening bolts and demons.

Ben Stein is an idiot, his resume isn't impressive. That twit in the White House graduated from Yale. Seriously, you can apparently buy anything there (degree, professorship, prestige), it's like the General Store of Ivy League Schools.

haha.

I find it interesting that you see such a strong correlation between these two variables.

Almost as if the smarter one is the more likely one is to be an evolutionist.

Haven't seen studies yet, but it would be interesting.

I'm starting to notice that a lot of 'Documentaries' these days are pretty skewed. Michael Moore talks about some pretty interesting things... but it's pretty easy to notice that he only leads you down the 'right' paths. SuperSize Me was interesting too, but similarly skewed. This film does seem to be interesting if it does provide some actual evidence.

As to the comments about Ben Stein's statement. I don't really see how what he says is really inflammatory. He's not talking about reading from the Torah in the courtroom, he's talking about Home Depot selling Christmas trees, not Holiday trees.

"he thinks he's got the whole argument figured out and that Darwinists are running scared."

That is just laughable, remember Ben Stein has absolutely NO scientific credentials, I would venture to say that most scientists haven't even heard of this bulls**t documentary.

I agree with tdiggity, this guy is a nutter. he should just go back to doing his gameshow

At the risk of falling into a troll's trap...

You are putting those words in his mouth. The only attacks he is making are against Ben Stein who has the credibility and authority of a log of wood when it comes to evolution.

Stop with your barbs and crass generalizations and argue intelligently.
