 Mother Arrested For Child Endangerment.
Mother Arrested For Child Endangerment.
Wait! Don't start calling her names just yet. Her crime?
She left her sleeping baby in her car while her and her two older daughters stepped a few yards away, keeping the car in sight the entire time so they could deposit some money into a Salvation Army tin. She was trying to teach her children about giving. picked by 2manyusernames 2 years ago

...statistics show thousands of children are injured and dozens die every year after being left unattended near or inside vehicles.
Relevance of this statement???

The child was not unattended if the mother could see the car IMHO.

Exactly this is freaking insane.

I imagine that if a parent sees someone in trouble on the side of the road they can't stop to render assistance if they have a child in the car.

Also if you have a flat or other problem, you are screwed until someone (a non-parent) comes by to help.

Of course when a cop asks you to step outside your vehicle you will be able to respond that you are unable to comply as doing so would be breaking the law.

Shh...don't tell anyone, but last week I left my two and three year-old strapped safely into their carseats while I jumped out of the car to check our mailbox.

I just can't take the guilt anymore, I'm gonna turn myself in!

This kind of story makes me not want children. It seems like so many parents these days get unfairly slammed for trying to do the right thing.

It was sleeting. The baby was sleeping. The car was locked and alarmed, and in plain sight of the parent.

I know you shouldn't leave any child alone in a car -- but seriously, was this child in danger?

Where does the line get drawn? Should waking up a sleeping child and carrying them out into the cold and sleet be considered bad parenting?

If you're going to charge someone with child endangerment, shouldn't the child have been in some type of danger?

Jesus Murphey!

I feel so incredibly bad for her other kids. What lesson might they have learned? Stop quickly to do something kind and get arrested??

The weather was nasty, the kid was sleeping, and she was gone for a few minutes - so waking up the kid and hauling her around in the sleet for a few minutes would make her a good parent?

I think this is definitely abuse of authority.

I wonder how new this cop was to the force. It is unbelievable to me that this even happened or that the cop wouldn't even let her talk.

I also find it unbelievable that this is even going to case. Meanwhile, all over America, children are actually being abused and mistreated.

I am definitely angered by this and hope to God she gets out of this okay.

I leave my kids in the car all the time (not out of my sight unless I'm at home and I run in to get something). Cops, can't live with them, get the chair if you shoot them.

I have left my kids in the car, locked, to go and withdrawal money from the ATM. Always in my sight, and not in any danger. I also know how difficult it is to shuffle 3 children(especially) a toddler. And heaven forbid he fall asleep in the car, because if he does, that is his nap for the day!

It's easy to take her side.. she's a mother, she was ONLY a few feet away, she was doing charity... What about the Peace offcier though?

Walks up, sees an unattended baby, doesn't know who it belongs to. Me? I'd be angry. How DARE she leave a defenseless child alone like that? Check the doors.. Locked. Now I'd be about ready to bust in a window. I don't know if the baby is sleeping or if (like the case of so many others) it has been sitting there for hours and has passed away.

NOW she comes up, where has she been? How long has she been away? She CLAIMS it was only a moment.. Yeah right lady, how many times have we heard THAT line before? I'd detain her also. Teach her a lesson.

So she gets on the phone with her husband and suddenly she won't even give me an answer as to who she is, who the child is, or any other information. I'd be ready to arrest her myself.

When looking at it from the policeman's perspective I can completely understand why she was arrested.
