I can't freaking believe they would suspend this guy's sentence. How the heck do you accidentally pay for a membership and download 8742 images!?

I can possibly believe the accidental downloading of a series of images that were mislabeled. Even so, you delete them in disgust.

This guy didn't download some mislabeled file.

He was sick enough and a big enough idiot (or perhaps he knew that he would get away with it) to use a credit card to join a child porn site. Instead of going about it anonymously he did it in plain site and easily tracked. He then downloaded the images over time.

Nothing accidental about it.

This ruling by the judge:
should be grounds for disbarment and criminal charges.

This is incredibly obscene that a pedophile is put back on the streets. A pedophile who may now be leery of fulfilling his fantasies via the internet and might seek out a more personal method of abusing children.

To put him back on the streets because he was a police officer just leaves me speechless.

The fact that he IS a police officer and holds so much power is what really frightens me.

Well, he's no longer a police officer. They at least fired him.

I wonder if this crap excuse worked for the other 1716 people that were investigated.

In the past I have accidentally downloaded child porn. I don't think any file on my computer has ever been deleted that fast. Since then I've gotten a *lot* more careful about what I download.

If you can make the same mistake more than 8000 times, I think you belong in a hospital. You need some serious examinations, trying to find out why you don't learn from your mistakes.

The problem is often that, by necessity, people who work in law enforcement work daily with members of the judicial system (including judges), and they form bonds of friendship or at least comraderie.

Friendship and camaraderie, though, shouldn't be an excuse for this type of behavior. This person has to be taken out of the position of authority and ordered to therapy, MINIMUM. If the judge was really a "friend" he should have sentenced him out of that friendship and provide help.

Yeah, I bet the people who let him off are the same ones who maintain that pedophile 'test' website.

They are the only ones I could conceive over 8000 child porn related mistakes.

I can't believe they let him off cause he is a cop and time in jail would be too "harsh" for him, that is bulls**t on so many different levels.

Cops should face the full penalty of the law, they are in a position of authority and with that comes responsibility. They also know the law, any normal cop would have realized the consequences of that kind of material and immediately deleted everything, possibly even report the site.

I would like to accidentally hit him in the crotch with a ballbat 8742 times.
