oh geez, can't they let him visit his daughter one time.

Jayci Yaeger has been allowed three escorted visits with her father, but each trip lasts only a couple of hours and costs the family hundreds of dollars. Requests for longer furloughs have been denied.
He's not a murderer after all.

What a bunch of asshats...unless there's more to the story, like the guy is a useless piece of crap that would actually make his daughter more miserable in her last days...which I have seen.

If the family pays the entire cost of him visiting his daughter and he isn't some crazy dangerous guy (and since he is being placed in a halfway house I am assuming he isn't) than he should be allowed to see her.

He has been allowed to see her on previous occasions and nothing bad happened.

Seems it isn't "they" who won't let the man see his daughter, but the warden, one single asshat.

Somehow I bet and fear that asshat of a warden will find a way to make the father pay for the bad publicity the prison is getting.

Do the crime, pay the time. Sucks that this happened, but I'm with 2many that WE shouldn't have to pay the $ to get a crew to bring him there and back (you know it'd be expensive).

STILL, it sucks that HIS actions are punishing his daughter. I don't know, too complex for my little mind to come to a true moral answer to this issue.

I'm sad for the girl, and mad at the father.

Nobody to blame but the dope who ended up in jail. Is this the first person in history to lose a loved one while in the klink? Not the first, and not the last. It does not make sense to let a federal inmate free. There are probably tons of inmates whose family members are circling the bowl, why should this guy get special treatment? Whats the point of having jails then? How about whoever thinks he should be let out adopts a federal inmate to live with them when they get released so they could get back on their feet.

Good argument, but did you read the part in the article where they mentioned that he's been given three visitations already? Surely if they can give him two when nothing is up they can give him one when his daughter is dying and requesting to have him at her side as she passes. Don't a dying persons wishes have any meaning anymore? What the hell has the world come to? this isn't for the man in jail, this is for the little girl who wants to spend her last few moments on Earth with her father nearby.

It's a bit like the sketch on Big Train though?

Dying girl asked by the 'make a wish' foundation, 'what do you want?'

She answers, 'I want you to close the hospital down... do it now'.

That said, unless they have good reason for not letting him visit her, I think you'd have to be pretty cold to deny a child a visit from her father, regardless if he is escorted by guards.

Yes, that is true. Many prisoners will face extreme situations which may warrant a temporary release.

There is a program available for all prisoners. The warden, one single man, is making the decision not to allow it in this particular case. Why? That is the question. Is it personal? Are there other factors we are not aware of?

Saying what is the point of jails is just silly. They aren't talking about release anyone for any reason. It is a long-standing program that will allow temporary supervised releases. The government doesn't pay for the expense to do this so no problem there.

Maybe the governor of Nebraska (Whoever that may be) can pardon him (Or can only senators do that ?)

Hey, it's a small(-ish) crime he was commited for, so why not ?

I say let him out to visit on family's dime.

When my brother was in prison, and my grandmother died, we had to pay for the coppers to drive down to get him, he was then handed over to my parents custody for the day. After the funeral and family gettogether thingy, we took him back to the coppers, and they took him back to prison. I can't remember how much we paid, but it wasn't too large of an amount.

this story isn't just about a dying girl. methamphetamine is NOT a small crime. he is in a federal prison which makes me think maybe he was trafficking or cooking it. he's probably contributed to the downfall of MANY, MANY people, and has ruined many, many families. that drug is dangerous, ugly, and horrifying in its effects. he's been in jail for what? 5 years? his daughter is 10 now? he didn't give a crap about his family back then, and it's unfortunate that his little girl is suffering now more than ever because of his stupid ass actions.

it is all just such a goddamn shame, especially considering an innocent child is suffering. however, let's not let that overwhelm our thinking, and make comments like,

"It sounds like a drug charge, and not a more serious crime." (kevin burton quote from the article).

meth is a VERY serious crime, and i refuse to have pity for someone who was involved with it enough to have been sent to a federal prison.

i have the utmost pity for that poor little girl, and i do hope they decide to release her father to allow her her dying wish. ultimately, though, i wish she didn't care about her father because he obviously didn't care about her or the rest of his family when he decided to choose drugs over them.

Thank you. I'll be writing/calling. I cannot understand why they won't let a dying child have her dad at her bedside. This is for the child. It may also serve to help the dad to rehab his ways. I cannot see the harm in allowing this, this is truly cruel and unusual punishment.
