Gotta love an old guy with a 'tude. Seriously though, the guy deserved the punch. What he was saying was not only libelous but inflammatory. And as such he is legally responsible for his words. (That means that a punch is not Buzz's fault legally)

One conspiracy theory involving Aldrin stems from a supposed Apollo moon landing hoax by the U.S. government.
On September 9, 2002, filmmaker Bart Sibrel, a proponent of the conspiracy allegations, confronted Aldrin outside a Beverly Hills, California hotel. Sibrel called Aldrin "a coward, a liar, and a thief," saying "You're the one who said you walked on the moon and you didn't."
Aldrin punched Sibrel in the face.[19] Beverly Hills police and the city's prosecutor declined to file charges. Sibrel suffered no permanent injuries.

If you have your own beliefs, keep them to yourself. To walk up to someone and just throw all those insults like that, the guy deserved it. I'm not sure what I think about the moon landing, but Mr. Aldrin didn't deserve to be humiliated like that.

A) Take the time and expense to do a fake job
B) That SOMEONE in the last 40 years would not have said something about it
C) That 40 years ago we were capable of making a fake that could not be detected by today's technology
D) That we would have been able to get where we are today (IN SPACE - Shuttle, Space Station, Satellites, etc) if we HAD faked it?
Am I in the minority here? Do people actually think the moon landings were faked? WTF?

If man could put man on the moon some 30 years ago why not since? With the advancements in technology since then you think they'd have done it again.
I really think it was faked as a morale booster for the United states
**edit** Now thats what you call timing!!!

**edit** Now thats what you call timing!!! Eh, people couldn't give s**t about the moon. By the time Apollo 13 came around, nobody cared about moon landings. Back then landing on the moon was to see if we could do it. Now, we have our sights set on Mars.

lol. That was well timed.
They call it the "first" manned moon landing because there were others. In fact, there were a total of six succesful manned moon landings between 1969 and 1972.
Why haven't we done it since then? What's the point? It costs a lot of money just to land in the same places and acquire no new information.

I actually have no idea if it was faked or not I just thought I'd say something smart-assed about it and now I'm beginning to wish I'd never opened my mouth :D

What purpose is there to go back to the moon? The missions to the moon had scientific measures to be declared justified.
As an example, a person has sat and watched the Star Wars: Return of the Jedi in the theatre 15 times. Each viewing cost said customer 10 dollars. The movie then comes out on dvd, and the customer then pays 15 dollars. The person has watched this show so many time that they have the ability to quote the movie word for word. Now, is this person going to go buy another copy of the movie thinking there may be something to be learned from it that the dvd he already owns has not taught him?
The proof is on the face of the moon. There are foot prints, a flag, a rover, the triangulating prism and many other things left behind that will still be there millions of years from now.
If you don't believe it, provide facts and evidence that it did not. Where as anyone with the determination and desire can show you mounds and mounds of evidence. Just because the the conspiracy "experts" don't understand the workings of modern science and understand how to read the laws of nature, physics and mechanisms that drive our universe, does not mean it never happened. It just means the consipracy "experts" need to return to school and fill in those gaps.
Ignorance is not bliss.

That's not much of an argument, seeing as I'm sure there are people who bought the original Laser Disc, VHS, Special Edition VHS, Special Edition DVD and 30th Anniversary DVD of the entire Star Wars Trilogy.
Regardless of that, we landed on the Moon.

About as obvious as your ability to type coherent sentences? Or maybe you're typing with an accent, I don't know.
So... How is the fake obvious? And what is your proof that we didn't reach the moon?

Just for the record, I DO believe that humans have walked on the moon...
BUT just for the sake of playing devil's advocate, I'll point out that nearly everyone who believes that does so with no evidence whatsoever. There's a flag up there? And a rover? and foot prints? Have you ever seen them? Or do you just take someone's word for it? This is akin to me saying, "uh, yeah, astronauts walked in my basement...and left a rover there." And you saying, "Oh, well then obviously it really happened...if you say they left a rover there. No need for me to see it myself."
What I think is the most compelling piece of evidence is the prism that was left on the moon, that they bounce a laser off of every now and again. But still I'm taking somebody's word for it. "That prism on the moon? Sure, we bounced a laser off of it last week...we were watching Will and Grace and thought it was a good time for a laser bounce. So, bounce we did!"
As I said, I DO BELIEVE that humans have walked on the moon--mainly because I think that if it was faked somebody who is not a nutjob would have come along with real evidence of the fake by now. But I think it's important that we acknowledge the difference between "what I *know* is true" and "what I *believe* is true despite the fact that I personally have no evidence."

Way to go Buzz!
Whether or not Buzz walked on the moon or not is besides the point. That man was a rude a$$ who deserved it.
I personally believe that the moon landing in 1969 really happened.
But I think people thought we faked it so that we could say we beat the Russian's in the space race.
