eBay auction to raise funds for defense of man accused of killing abortion doctor Posted: 4 weeks ago by cecilberman
“I really am hopeful that eBay can see that once this is up, that it is not a glorification of violence,” said auction organizer Dave Leach, an abortion opponent from Iowa. “If the auction stays up, it will only be because eBay has been shamed into recognizing the nonviolent nature of the items.”
Items organizers said were being donated for the auction include an Army of God manual that describes dozens of ways to shut down abortion clinics; and a prison cookbook compiled by Shelley Shannon, who is serving time for clinic arsons and bombings.

Couple in MA selling debt on EBay Posted: 10 months ago by Moe
They are both out of a job with a 2 year old and a mortgage. They are selling their debt in $10.00 chunks. Buyers will get a thank you note and a photo of the family.
The original auction listing was removed by EBay, but was relisted here - probably with a wording change to make it acceptable.
Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Scientology Given Direct Access To eBay Database Posted: 2 years ago by extc68
The Church of Scientology can delete auctions from eBay with no supervision under the VeRO program, and has used this to delete all resale of the e-meters Scientologists use. This is to stop members from buying used units from ex-members instead of buying from the official (and very expensive) source. Given Scientology's record of fraud and abuse, should eBay give them this level of trust? Will this set a precedent for other companies that want to stop the aftermarket resale of their products? - from /.

One Joke for Sale on eBay Posted: 11 months ago by suebe
Onion writer John Harris is trying to sell an unspecified joke on eBay because he "can't find a contextual home" for it. The punchline is that bids have already soared to $370, despite his self-effacing sales pitch: "To be fair, it's less of a joke and more of a dated, Capote-esque cocktail party bon mot, but decidedly more feeble"

A million dollar Post-it to euthanize Modern Art Posted: 3 years ago by tribulete
An ordinary guy (not an artist) who signs as ‘G’, worried because art it’s since many decades ago a big fraud, has decided to put an end to Modern Art by creating the Ultimate Art Fraud: a Post-it that he is selling in eBay for a million dollars (or more!).
G thinks that Modern Art is nowadays like a comatose patient kept alive artificially by a bunch of speculators and thefts (“artists”, critics, art dealers, gallery owners...) that want to keep living off it without any effort, repeating the same ideas (supposedly avant-gardist) over and over.
G wants to euthanize Modern Art. Inspired by Cervantes (who put an end to the ridiculous knight-errant books of his time by writing a knight-errant book even more ridiculous, crazy and absurd), he wants to put an end to Modern Art frauds making an even bigger fraud!
In his web page (www.theendofmodernart.com) he explains how the sale of his work “The End Of “Modern Art”” for a million dollars will put an end to Modern Art or, at least, generate a very necessary debate that will help to stop art frauds.
“The End Of “Modern Art”” is for sale on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170108024366), to avoid gallery owners and art dealers, who are not interested in killing the goose that lays the golden eggs. If G’s plans are successful, Modern Art will die just to make way to a Timeless Art, inspiring, enriching and, above all, original.
