Here, have a theme pic, eh!
Edit: The cropping tools made available by plime in the add thumbnail don't work properly most of the time. It is always a good idea to save the image to your PC first, then crop the image to fit into a square (i.e. 100x100, 250x250, etc.) and then upload directly to plime. This way has always worked for me. Hope this helps for future posts! ; )

That is so awful. I hope they decide to go ahead with the early hormonal therapy. I have a friend who is transgendered and I can only imagine how much easier her life would be if she had been presented with the opportunity to halt puberty before it started.

I dunno, kids have fragile minds.. thats why we're forced to have to wait until we're 18 to make most decisions, ecspecially life altering.. but then again if she/he waits til 18 they miss out on living like they wanted to through some of the most important years..I dunno, I think I agree with the doctors that not naturally letting puberty flow could cause serious health problems for growing kids. I mean when I was growing up they said lifting weights too early could stunt your growth, who knows what gender reassignment could do.

I think the key is to determine which would be more detrimental to the patient: suffering the physical consequences of not going through a true puberty, or suffering the mental consequences of being forced to allow your body to warp. It's a toughy, that's for sure.

Horrible situation, however I don't think the wife acted appropriately by not telling the father. I would be really angry if that happened to me. I hope this doesn't happen to any of my kids because I don't think I could handle it well.

Poor kid, she's got a long, rough road ahead of her.
I find it interesting that she had always known she wasn't a boy, and that she tried to remove her penis as a toddler. I really hope she doesn't have to go through puberty as a male, especially if she's always known she's a girl.
Still, it's good to see that her parents are supportive of her, as well as her principal. I'm glad to see society in general is becoming so much more welcoming and accepting of people who 20 years ago would have been regarded as almost subhuman outcasts.

I really hope she doesn't have to go through puberty as a male, especially if she's always known she's a girl. This is actually extremely common among trangenered people. Most remember something like this in their childhood, and it was usually punished. This is a main reason that early hormone therapy should be seen as corrective medicine and not 'social engineering' like some call it.
this girl is damn lucky to have parents like that.

It just goes to show you how amazingly complicated the brain is.. Despite all outward appearances, this child is truly a girl..and knew so at an incredibly young age. Kudos to those around her who have been so supportive, I couldn't agree more..it seems that would be much more the exception than the rule.

This story made me cry. To imagine what the child must feel at 2 years, 4 years, 7 years.... No child should have to go through that. I am happy to know that the parents are so supportive, I think that's amazing!
If I had kids and I found out they were making fun of a transgender kid, I'd get them a sex change. Haha, not really. But maybe :P

I have quite a few transgendered friends, and they all agree that their childhood was marred by being certain they were in the wrong body, and being punished for acting out on what they felt was innately correct.

?: Is "Gender Identity Disorder" even in the DSM-IV? Good question, I wondered that too and found it actually is. I can't imagine it not being there to stay, that it isn't a bona fide clinical disorder.
