Sadly enough, I doubt this ignorance is confined to Florida. And GOOD for them for actually monitoring this and doing something about it!

Drinking bleach is well within the projected estimate.

We had some pretty wild myths when I was a kid. But these one win the prize! That is really sad! Do the parents not talk to the kids? If they do, do the kids NOT believe their parents? I am honest with my kids. I don't sugar coat anything that is important. They get the facts they need--as appropriate to their age. I'll say it again, this is very sad.

A recent survey [Who conducted this survey?] that found some [How many is some?] Florida teens believe drinking a cap of bleach will prevent HIV and a shot of Mountain Dew will stop pregnancy has prompted lawmakers [Who specifically?] to push for an overhaul of sex education in the state.

The survey [Source?] showed that Florida teens also believe [Unanimously? If not how many?] that smoking marijuana will prevent a person from getting pregnant.

State lawmakers [Again, lawmakers is extremely broad] said the myths are spreading because of Florida's abstinence-only sex education [Do they cite any sources?], Local 6 reported.

They are proposing a bill that would require a more comprehensive approach, the report [Report? What report?] said.

It would still require teaching abstinence but students would also learn about condoms and other methods of birth control and disease prevention.

The bill just passed its first vote in a committee [What committee?], Local 6 reported.

I went to a Catholic school for 13 years. I never believed some of these outrageous things. Nobody I knew did, though I remember one kid who thought that if you counted to infinity you'd explode.
