Scientists Flesh Out Plans to Grow (And Sell) Test Tube Meat

In five to 10 years, supermarkets might have some new products in the meat counter: packs of vat-grown meat that are cheaper to produce than livestock and have less impact on the environment.

Theres a similar product going by the name of Quorn. Maybe spirulina, the 'super food' would pass as a similar product too! Quorn is just a giant vat of fungus grown and textured to look like meat...then sold as a substitute.

Applying this conecpt to other eukarya is inevitable! I'm fine with it, since its all the same to me, as long as it tastes nice (and has the added benefit of helping the environment) I'll eat it!

I'm glad they actually gave a time frame, so many articles seem to think revolutionary stuff like this is around the corner! So much for space odyssey 2001!

Imagine selling "grow your own meat" kits next to "grow your own beer" kits...you could grow your own BBQ food and drink for so cheap!

i don't know about in vitro meat ... my concerns is in nutrition and taste. would it be like "vegetarian hot dogs," that could taste good if it was never called a hot dog? would in vitro meat taste like animal meat, but have less fat and cholesterol? if i could be assured about the nutritional values of it, i'd be up to trying man-made animal products ... though that sounds like an oxymoron.

Oh come on. It's not like you guys haven't eaten a hot dog. That pretty much says you will eat anything.

I see this as the possible future. We can't substain an evergrowing human population with present means.

Plus, it's nicer to the environment and won't require sections and sections of ranchland.

I'm not a big meat eater, and I'll probably stick to wild meat, but I would definitely eat a test tube steak at least once.
