Police harassment on the steps of the Thomas Jefferson memorial
Police harassment on the steps of the Thomas Jefferson memorial
A group of about 20 people headed down to the Thomas Jefferson Memorial for some flash mob fun. To celebrate Jefferson’s birthday, they would meet on the steps of the memorial, dance for about 10 minutes, and leave.

Instead they were arrested with no explanation given to them or to the parties asking about them. via picked by 2manyusernames 2 years ago

Yeah the park pigs don't mess around on that side of the basin. I got a parking ticket when I was standing about 10 feet from my car shooting a bride and groom (the limo was spared) without warning, apology... anything. My assistant was in the car with it RUNNING and they told him they would arrest him if he got out to drive it away/around. The groom was a Marine 2 days back from a tour in Iraq, I took the opportunity to heckle the officers as they walked away (they wear jack boots BTW) about their strong sense of patriotism and respect for people in uniform (apparently it doesn't extend to people taking people in uniform's wedding pictures). I try my hardest NOT to take jobs within the district partially because it is a PITA partially because I never paid that ticket.

umm.. I dunno.. is this like a natioanl park type rules things, closing hours?.. b/c 20 people meeting up anywhere at midnight seems kind of suspicious to me.. and once again when someone of authority asks you to leave.. u leave.. don't ask y..

Park is open 24 hours.

If someone of authority asks you to leave you have every right to ask why. It may or may not be a good idea to argue the point, you rarely will win. You can't argue with his reasoning but you have every right to ask why.

They also refused to give their badge numbers.
Isn't that a duty for cops to identify themselves ? They are breaking the law if they don't.

gotcha, very true.. And I have bad experience asking police for their badge numbers.. 100% of the time when I ask for their badge numbers they're response is that it will be written on the ticket I will be receiving, so once you ask theres no chance of getting out of the ticket

I do find it sort of funny that they were arrested while celebrating the birth of an anti-authoritarian. Did that give anyone else a chuckle? Should I chuckle for you? aheeeeyuck!

This cop is in dire need of getting his ass kicked right out of the police force (and hopefully into a jail cell).
