Hobbit 'had been to dentist for filling'
Hobbit 'had been to dentist for filling'
The Hobbit, the tiny human fossil found in a cave on an Indonesian island in 2003 and claimed as a new species, was a modern human whose teeth had been worked on by a dentist, possibly in the 1930s, according to a scientist whose new book is set to inflame debate. picked by AutumnLotus 2 years ago

Unlike the earlier scientific work, the book has apparently not gone through a peer review process, and I guess the statements made there have to be doubted until they can be verified...

I would have thought that in the 1930s fillings would have been of the amalgam type and so would appear as a plug of metal, rather than a "white matt substance."

I believe "hobbit" filling was customarily the crushed horn of a white Unicorn.

I was under the impression that "hobbit filling" was an activity that went on at Tolkien conventions.

Customarily, yes. But there were some exceptions.

I say this guy's teeth should be analyzed for it's lead isotopic content. By the 1930's there were smelters aplenty, and I should think that anomalous or distinctive lead isotope signatures would be recorded in his teeth.

When such things are discovered, it make us curious to know the mystery.
