Can you hear the "Mosquito"?
Can you hear the "Mosquito"?
In response to cb__'s post. This is the sound they are talking about when they mention a high pitched sound only teens can hear. I can still hear it. Can you? picked by zumacrum 6 months ago

GAH! Yes.

Actually it's not THAT awful...sounds kinda like my TV when it's on AUX.

I DID have to put it on full volume, though.

EDIT: I just turned 20, too, so I'm not a teen anymore..

I can't hear anything. I played it on Media Player and have the volume all the way up. Are you messing with us old people?

I don't think it's so much a mossie sound as it is an electronics sound. TV's and old-school moniters always sound like that and it drives me nuts. My phone charger does the same thing, too.

I'm not a teen, either, I'm almost 24!

I heard it but only after I turned the volume higher on my computer, then it was horrible. I feel young again... (ok, I'm only 22 but still...)

From the article I gathered there's no set year at which one can hear or not hear the sound. So far, all you sub-25 year olds fit within their range of effectiveness.

It's us late 30s folks that are well past the threshold, I think.

It just sounds like the noise a TV makes when it's on. A little annoying, but nothing too bad.

Mid 30's here...I hear it, and 'feel' it in my ears. Like a sudden change in air pressure, maybe? Not pleasant. Any store that had that playing would immediately lose my business.

I remember that sound as a child, but I can't hear it anymore. I'd go batty hearing the whine coming from my TV. Now I don't hear it.

When I was student teaching last year, I had students play that sound in class. Oblivious, I would teach on, while students would cover their ears.

I am 32. I could hear it with my right ear but not my left.

I am only half old. :P

I heard this too. I think there are sounds that are higher in register than this sound. Some sounds are completely inaudible to those over 20.

Yes, I felt it too. And now, after hearing and feeling it, it has been 5 minutes or so and I feel funny in my ears.

Strange.
I could hear it just fine, and I thought I had bad hearing.

Interesting:

See what the highest frequency you can hear is:

It guesses your age based on what frequency you can hear. Mine got my age dead on.

Cool
You are about 20 years old
The teen repellent will no longer foil you, but you can still hear some pretty high tones.

The highest pitched ultrasonic mosquito ringtone that I can hear is 16.7kHz

I couldn't hear it, but I had the same effect... had a bit of a pulse in my head, only when my computer AND speaker volume were turned up to the max. God help me if I had received an email during those few seconds... the "ping!" sound would have blown me across the room!

Is that what it's supposed to sound like?
