Republicans Crossing Over to Vote in Democratic Contests
Republicans Crossing Over to Vote in Democratic Contests
“I used to like John McCain, but he’s aligning himself too closely with what Bush did, and that’s just not what I want for this country,” Mrs. Morgan, who is 56, said when asked to explain her rejection of the presumptive Republican nominee. picked by JDRucker 2 years ago

McCain has such an advantage with the Democrats fighting it out. He just hasn't taken advantage of it the way that most thought he would. He's losing more voters by not saying the right things and doing the right things while the Democrats, Obama in particular, are getting their message out because of the spotlight on their race.

Saying the "right" thngs would vary a lot depending on who you are trying to court.

For the Bush lovers he is saying the right things, and then some. Scarey guy.

What's crazy is there are not that many Bush "Lovers". At best there are a lot of people who don't feel Bush is the personification of Evil and that way too much crap is blamed on him. Still that leaves plenty of stuff that he is responsible for, plenty of screw ups.

It seems many republicans dislike the two men because they are not republican enough. Democrats dislike them because they are too republican.

Why any politician wouldn't try to distance themselves from Bush is something I just can't understand. There are very few groups that love Bush. Seems better to show you are different.

That's true, there are not that many Bush supporters (OK I'll be politically correct) left but more than one would think considering his sordid record.

The latest poll shows an approval rating of 28 to 32%. That's almost a third of the Republicans! That's a number significant enough for a Republican candidate not to ignore.

I also agree that he may be taking a wacko hawkish stance to court the Republicans who think Bush was too wimpish and didn't attack enough countries.

And finally, I agree that it's beyond comprehension why anyone would not distance themselves from this failed adimistration.

Very true!

I think the only reason why he doesn't want to distance himself too much from Bush, is because of what happened in 2000 with Gore and Clinton. Gore distanced himself, and in the end it hurt him greatly. McCain is trying to prevent such a mistake.

However, from most of the people I have heard talking about this stuff... McCain and Bush don't actually like each other... so there may be more to it. I haven't seen McCain actually trying to keep Bush in or out of anything... the only people who keep bring Bush up while talking about McCain, are the people trying to attack him.

Thus far, nobody has been able to attack McCain with anything that really sticks... "He's old," yeah, but so are a lot of people... "He's angry," who doesn't get angry?... "He dumb," than how was been a senator for so long? The only thing that's slightly sticking is the "He's Bush 3" line... and anyone who really reads into it, knows there are a lot of differences between him and Bush.

But I digress...
I thought the whole "switching sides to vote in the primary" was called (by Rush) Operation Chaos. So if I was a Democrat reading this story... I don't know if I'd be too thrilled.
