Saw that on one of those "motivational" posters once and it just kinda stuck. :) I know it kinda plays to the stereotype and I'll be the first to admit there are some really (really) hot goth chics out there. But you have to admit, a good percentage of goth women you see fit the mold.

Because of the potential for many a Phd thesis to had in that room.

That's a very close-minded thing to say. I'm one of those 'loners' as you so kindly described goths to be. I frequent goth clubs and dress up; I am no loner, nor do I dislike social gatherings. I know many goths who have a regular 9-5 job but enjoy dressing up to go out. Don't chalk up what you don't understand (or know nothing about) to be a 'potential Phd thesis.'

Here's why I I find Goth Culture (as I know it) to be something of an oxymoron.
At it's center seems to be a desire to distance one's self from mainstream culture, to be different, and to express yourself. Fine.
Most Goths are going for negative attention. Also fine.

I find the irony in an event so celebrated for color, shallow emphasis on fashion, and to see and be seen in complete contrast to whatever values goths seems to prize. (This being the "prom")

It seems that Goths themselves have come full circle in this- They will be there dressed in their finest black, each trying to outdo the other in an effort to be noticed.

All fads are based on people trying to be different from everyone else in the same way as everyone else. You aren't cynical about Goths, you're cynical about fads in general; maybe you just don't know it yet.

I was a musician. If it fits and is reasonably clean I wear it. Matching colors is purely accidental.

Antisocial from what would be considered main stream or 'normal' does not truly mean antisocial. Goth is the same as any other click of people, just with different interests and different goals.

what makes one "Goth" - I notice a lot of hot topic type wear and tatoos and peircings -- but that could be a harley biker too. what are they ideals? creedos?

I had friends in high school who were goth, and I have to say they were more real than any of the phoney baloney "popular" kids ever were. That being said, I enjoyed the slide show of the "goth prom", what fun!

Yo, the club I go to is way cooler. We had a zombie prom night and some people had amazing makeup. I wish I could find pictures. I just have one of me.

Hmmm....apparently goths don't have to dress up in all black to be considered goth anymore....or this gathering was open to non goths as well.

That sounds cool, I hope it wasn't related to the musical "Zombie Prom" (my High School put it on and it was horrible)
