A former member of the Ku Klux Friggin Klan is endorsing Obama! He fought against integrating the military too.

Obama is the golden boy!

Seriously though. I support Obama, but I think it's embarrassing how much some of his supporters are tripping over themselves trying to make him out like the second coming.

I'm a West Virginian, so you can ask me :)

Bobby Byrd is not a member of the KKK (anymore). Hasn't been since the 1940's or something. He's long ago renounced that and plays nice with everyone, unless they are trying to keep a federal project out of WV.

Bobby Byrd *is* the Second Coming in WV. Just about every other building in the state has his name on it somewhere. He's the king of pork - when Bobby Byrd retires or kicks it, the state will come to a grinding halt. We have noticably better highways than most of our neighboring states because they get friggin' redone every year, just about. Even though they are virtually empty. It's always a shock to drive over the border into Pennsylvania - their roads are like something out of a warzone compared to ours.

At first I was like, hey, what's the point of this story? And then I read:

Obama is vying to be the nation's first black president.
Thank you Associated Press! I would never have understood the significance of an ex-KKK member's support for Obama if you had not put that nugget of information in there. I had no idea that Obama was black!
