Expectant mom upset by offensive offer
Expectant mom upset by offensive offer
The young woman who is five months pregnant was waiting tables at a Mill Creek restaurant Monday night when a table of 12 adults ordered a round of cocktails.

After they left, she opened the bill holder to get the tip and also found a card inside that read... picked by muppet 8 months ago

The joy and privileges of wealth. Apparently it allows you to look down on people and feel like you could do anything better than them, including raising their child.

To bad you're sterile. Take the hint nature has given you.

I dunno... I think the expectant mother is seriously over-reacting. The people who left the card were not rude and they didn't say their request out loud as to embarass the expetant. I mean, the card/number is for an a legit agency that specializes in this type of work. What I think is even worse is that she freaked and went to the local TV station and now this is probably aired in this weeks news - to me her knee jerk reaction is way over the top.

I can see both sides of this one. I do agree about whether it was necessary to go to the news about it.

I'm in sales. The couple was cold-calling. I can respect that. They get enough of those cards out there and the odds of finding a willing expectant mother goes up. Nothing wrong with that.

From the waitress' perspective I can see her getting a little offended because of the assumptions being made by the couple.

It's a toss up. No one "loses".

Did I mention she was kinda hot?

The offer itself was not offensive. The waitress said she was offended by the assumptions made by the couple, but as far as I can see, the only assumptions were made by the waitress herself.

I think it was pretty damned offensive of them. If anyone had handed me a card like that while I was pregnant, they would have gotten an EARFUL.
They're not trying to find a new car, or find the perfect house. This is someone's child. It's only slightly less inappropriate than handing that card to someone holding a crying newborn. The chances of them handing it to a mother who is actually looking to give her baby up for adoption is pretty slim. For most pregnant women, there is already a BIG emotional connection between them and the unborn baby. Offering to basically take the baby off her hands? Incredibly rude.

Money they may have. But tact? Not so much.

I dunno...If you're not intersted, just toss the d*mn card! No need to go to the freaking news!! If you get THAT offended over a card maybe you shouldn't be a parent. People get offended the most at things they know are partially true..like being overweight, old, etc. All those "assumptions" she came up with wouldn't have even crossed my mind...so maybe deep down she's thinking them HERSELF for a reason.

I can honestly say if I had received that card while we were pregnant I would have laughed at it and tossed it. Situation over. ..I may have even wished them luck finding somebody to adopt if I knew specifically who left it.

I have a cousin trying to adopt..unless you wan't some crack child with bad genes you need to go private ($$$ and tough to come by) or overseas. My cousin is going overseas to adopt children with minor medical issues we can fix in the US but leave kids abandoned in their own country.

So these folks are going private??? Good luck! They need all the help they can get...like self advertising.

I agree--they saw someone who was pregnant, and gave a card. Anything else is being read into the situation by the woman.

Like I said above, I can see both sides... but to play devil's advocate a little:

I don't know if that's "incredibly rude". They clearly didn't know the lady. What if she was thinking about giving up the baby but maybe too ashamed or whatever to really look into it? Or just didn't know where to go to find out how to go about it? Boom... there's the card and there begins the process.

The couple is playing the odds. I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of women they've left a card with probably just laughed it off and threw it away.

One of her comments was that they didn't question her about her pregnancy. She would have found that less offensive? I would think that a simple card that doesn't draw a lot of attention to itself is a lot better than a couple hounding her while she is working.

Now that is rude.

Only because the couple refused to be interviewed. It's not impossible that she's right.

Keep in mind, however, that there ARE kids that are unwanted by their parents. (Random abortion statistic here) I can think of two people off the top of my head that would be GLAD to receive one of those cards. Of course I can see both sides of the issue, but I seemed like the she was overreacting. They didn't want HER child, they wanted A child. So they are probably giving those out to people to see if anyone truly does not want them. And if they do, well they can choose to ignore it. Rather than making some publicity stunt.

I can't help but find this funny....although I think it would be slightly offensive.

It's a pretty unusual request..."Can we have that little organism growing inside of your womb...you just have to give birth to him, we'll take care of the rest"
