One myth I'm trying to find out more about is that, in California, a first offense seat belt ticket is, according to the vehicle code on the DMV website, only $20.

But my father-in-law recently received a seatbelt ticket, and it was over $90!!! So is there a class action lawsuit against the state about overcharging on this ticket?

(NB - I am all for wearing your seatbelt always, but I am also all for the authorities doing what the law says.)

Also, how can we convince Dad to always wear that belt? He just never does, and it makes us sad. He's an old time cabbie/garage attendant/car dude.

Good list but there are a couple of inaccuracies:

#8: while they are correct in saying that putting something in your mouth won't work, they state that breathalysers measure your Blood Alcohol Content (BAC). This is not true, they measure your breath alcohol content (BrAC), which is a recognized indicator of BAC.

#9: "in some states, such as Maine, the refusal to take the test is not only an automatic admission of guilt"

It's not an admissions of guilt, while it is admissible in court, you still have a right to fight the arrest. You will loose your license however through your states administrative license suspension process.
