The Future Is Now? Pretty Soon, at Least
At least that’s Dr. Kurzweil’s calculation. It may sound too good to be true, but even his critics acknowledge he’s not your ordinary sci-fi fantasist. He is a futurist with a track record and enough credibility for the National Academy of Engineering to publish his sunny forecast for solar energy. picked by DerAlt 7 months ago

extremely interesting article, I got to read more about that.
And the guy is no fool for making the statements he's making, the past already proves that.
The only thing his predictions are lacking in my opinion is the division between capabilities and knowledge.
Somewhere in the article he touches the subject of nanoparticles, and those are a great example.
The capability to create things unheard of only a little while ago already seem limitless, yet the knowledge about them is tragically lacking extremely.

I foresee an exponential growth in the gap between capabilities and knowledge, and that's far more likely to put the world to an end than any meteorite or alien invasion for example.

I could make a bet on it, but that's a bit futile when it comes to predicting the end of the world.

His book The Singularity is Near has much more about all this stuff, it's really fascinating. Definitely worth a read.

Grab his book "Radical Evolution" too. VERY good read about this sort of stuff and how human evolution is entwined with it.
