Which is it? They're actually talking about it being on idle mode. You can't play a PS3 on idle mode, just like you can't use a computer while it's hibernating. The Folding@home program uses all 8 cores of the PS3's CPU. I use that program during the week. I justify it by how much it helps the development and research for desease cures. I have folded over 1,000 work units. One day I may be able to say that I helped cure cancer. Anybody would be proud to say that, eh!
Edit: Just wanted to add that sofsr is partially incorrect. Like I stated, the Folding@home program uses every bit of processing power the PS3 has to offer and is definitely not in standby mode.
