"Hockey Night in Canada" Themesong, Sold
The "Hockey Night in Canada" anthem has been bought-out from under the presiding and presumptuous previous user, Canada's own C(anadian)B(roadcast)C(orporation).

"We're probably going to be accused of bungling this," (CBC representative) Moore said. "But I don’t know if a deal was ever possible."

Well, apparently, a deal WAS possible with a rival Canadian network, which, thanks to bungling, now owns rights to the anthem. Nice try on spinning a bad play, CBC. picked by jago 4 months ago

Not sure why this was downvoted, but here comes a big fat 31 karma.

I really don't see what the big deal is. It's just a tune and it is not like CBC is selling hockey all together. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe there is more to the theme than meets the ear.

Actually, it's less worst than it was expected. fortunately, this song stays on tv, but on an private channel

This song, and it will seems a bit weird, but it's part of our heritage. Everybody knows it. It's stronger than the national anthem for some kids. Have less importance today, but decades ago, this song was the start of a big event; Hockey night in Canada.

It's a bit like the monday night football theme.

To main problem; Radio-Canada is according less importance to hockey, or is unable to compete with private channels.

People are realising that Hockey is harder to reach, and every changes is souvenirs fading away.

As a longtime hockey night in Canada fan, and someone who's only channel is CBC, I am happy to see the song go.

Not because it was a horrible song, but the lady who wrote it was just being a greedy b***h. She made plenty of money off her little jingle, and I am glad CBC didn't let her extort more money out of them.

They can find a new jingle and we'll all forget about this one.

How sad it is that we equate "heritage" with a cheesy TV theme song here in our 3rd rate, abandoned British colony known as Canada.

I doubt our American cousins were so distraught when the "Don't Squeeze the Charmin" guy dies a few months ago.

It's nostalgia, not heritage; memories of days long past when Canada actually had a stake in professional hockey. Sad reality is that we have little heritage here - in English Canada at least.
