I've got a lot of compassion for animals, I'm somewhat of an animal person. In a recent thread I defended the right of any animal however small to have a chance at life and be helped. Don't talk down to me as if I'm some kind of a*****e who doesn't have compassion for living things.

Having compassion and realizing that an animals life does not have the same meaning and value as a humans are two entirely different things.
We have a lot of animals that I love and would do anything within my power for but if you want me to say that their lives mean as much to me as my children then that ain't gonna happen.

Example to maybe bring you back to earth...

I'm crossing a road with my dog and my child, a car comes careering around the corner about to hit my child and my dog, which do I prioritize and save ?! My child of course.

Would it tear me up and leave me heartbroken that my dog had died? Yes. Would I choose my dogs life over my child's? No

That's all I'm going to say as the very idea that an animals life is on the same level as a child's is absolutely insulting and ridiculous to me.

To be fair, plants, pathogens, and single celled organisms don't exactly have the neural formations to feel pain, nor do they need to to survive.

The very act of having a lawn is helping the genes of that species of grass survive, and so I wouldn't see cutting it as any harm to the genes considering there is no pain or suffering involved.

That very well may be, but at least have the decency to explain why.

MY child or MY animal. Probably MY child. YOUR (or some other random person's) child or MY dog/horse/whatever...well, let's just say you should probably hope that I never have to make that choice because you won't like it. Maybe you should've kept better tabs on your kid.

My opinion on the matter is that it very much depends on the two animals in question (humans are animals, you see). I know some people that are better than some cats, and some cats that are better than some people. I would certainly pick my cat over a mass murderer. I would even be inclined to say that I would pick my cat over a random person. It all depends on that person.

I said MY pet that I had personally taken the time to raise and train and put a lot of effort into. I take care of the interests of those that I love (human or not). It's in your best interest to do the same. I don't really care what you think that makes me.
If your kid and my kid are playing in the street and about to get hit and I can only grab one, sorry, you already know my choice.

The thing is, it's not your personal pet. This is some random puppy across the world. So which would you rather save? A random puppy across the world, or a random human child across the world?

What makes me sick to my stomach is that you have so little regard for human life and are so selfish that you'd let a child die because you've had no input into it's life. Sick.
