"God Killed Him For Loving Fags"
"God Killed Him For Loving Fags"
A gay marriage supporter playing guitar outside City Hall in San Francisco collapsed yesterday. As emergency workers struggled to save the man’s life an anti-gay protester shouted such encouraging phrases as "Satan Got You!", and, "God killed him for loving fags!!". picked by doggylives 1 year ago

Got downvoted. Obviously got downvoted by a level 23 Christian whose nose the story got up.

It's not the actual downvote it's the laziness of the downvoter who obviously disagrees with something but just can't be bothered to explain why or discuss it. Easier to try and bury it and pretend it never happened.

I'm tempted to down-vote this too (but I will not). I am a Christian and I frankly get tired of the kind of articles (in this case a blog) people here love to post about Christians. Get a fuller picture of the situation. Do you not realize that around the world there are Christians who do good? Was one of the protesters being a poor reflection of Jesus? Yes. I guess it is simply considered en vogue to find minority bad examples and talk about how idiotic and unscientific one must be in order to believe Jesus was what he said he was.

I downvoted this as well, but because you linked to DailyKOS. I hate DailyKOS with a passion, so it's nothing personal :)

So should we just ignore this kind of story and bury it just in case it happens to reflect badly on your religion?

If you choose to associate yourself with a religion then you have to accept what comes your way.

It's an article written about an actual incident, not made up or ficticious. I found it interesting. Sorry if you feel it reflects badly on your religious beliefs.

Yes this was the actions of one guy but his words reflect the feelings of a lot of homophobic Christians who use the bible as an excuse for their bigotry.

Christians believe in the bible, or at least profess to, the bible teaches that homosexuals go to hell and are sinners, the old testament says that homosexuals should be put to death. If you choose to believe and endorse a book that teaches such things then that's your prerogative and right, but you can't expect people to tipee-toe around the facts in case it makes what you believe look bad.

Again, I'm sorry you don't like the article but this isn't a Christian website it's a secular one and as such should be open to articles such as this.

It never ceases to amaze me how defensive Christians get when they feel their beliefs are questioned or anyone dares to disagree with them, even to the point of downvoting an article that mentions a Christian in a bad light.

Yes, the OT teaches that homosexuals should be put to death and anyone that uses the OT as a legal argument is retarded, because it's the history of the law, and nothing more. I hate when people bring it up, because it's obviously not law anymore. You're not allowed to eat shellfish or pork, but they skip over that.

That being said, these people are obviously not showing the love of Christ, it it makes me ashamed that I fall under the same umbrella of "Christianity" as them.

So just ignore the post then.
No, I feel that the DailyKOS should be ignored, and downvoted if posted, because the DailyKOS is anything but an unbiased source, and it's a breeding ground for hate.

What a poor example of what Christian is.

In the new testament, a woman was going to be stoned to death for her sins of adultery. Jesus picked up a stone and told the mob that the one without sin cast the first stone. After they all departed, Jesus told the woman to go and sin no more. We are all sinners. I am a sinner. Those people who say those terrible things are sinners too. I didn't downvote this story or any else like it. It's a sad thing. If those people who call themselves Christian believe in the bible as they profess to, then they will have a lot to answer for.

Facts? I see it as isolated events that in fact are overwhelmed by the good that Christians do.
John 3:17
"For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved."
This is the mentality of myself and most Christians. I do believe people's sins have caused a separation between them and their Creator. Jesus came to be a sacrifice for our sins (it is a debt we cannot pay ourselves) so that those who would accept His gift can know Him. That guy there did not have The Great Commission in mind, he was acting outside of Biblical principles, and therefore not acting as a Christian.

I hate stories like this, and thus the downvote. I'll explain my reasoning, though, so the whining can stop.

My response to this story is that this guy is a complete idiot. But his actions should not reflect on his religion. I've personally never met a Christian who would behave in such an ungodly manner. I seriously doubt you have, either.

I could link to a story about how an uneducated black person murdered someone in a gang-related crime. But the actions of an individual should never be reflected on the rest of his race; to do so would be blatant racism.

So how can links like this be considered any differently? If you think that the religion of this man is solely responsible for his actions, think again. So to post links like this just promotes bias.

Ergo, my downvote.

That really deserves a downvote, but I'll hold off because I don't want this to turn into a bloodbath.

Religion does not cause hatred. Hatred is already ingrained into people, and the vessel for which they can justify their hatred becomes religion.

Christianity is anything but hatred, but too many use it as a vessel to hate.

No one here thinks that all Christians are bad. On the contrary, we are fully aware that most of them are perfectly nice and moral people who would instantly condemn the kind of behavior that the article mentions. The simple fact is that people who speak loudly are going to get more press coverage. If you don't want people like this representing your religion, then condemn their behavior, loudly and publicly. And get other Christians to do the same.

I can't even start to address this as I don't believe in Jesus or that the bible is divinely inspired or in god so the conversation would go nowhere.

All I will say is that the New Testament condemns homosexuality along with murder and adultery so the argument that the Old Testament doesn't apply as it is "old law" is kind of null and void.

How do you personally feel about homosexuality? Do you feel it is a sin?

Following this logic, I would expect you to downvote any story involving humans (or animals) doing bad things. The vast majority of being on the planet are not murderers, rapists, criminals, etc. We still post stories about them and no one jumps to their defense. Just because the vast majority of Christians are not bad people does NOT justify defense (or apathy towards) those who are self-righteous pricks who use their religion as an excuse to abuse their fellow man.
Plime is a pliable tree of interesting links, not a pliable tree of links illustrating the best aspects of all things in the world. We routinely post links concerning the dark underbelly of humanity. This is no different, please do not treat it as such.

Another way to turn people away from Christianity is to behave like Christians are a higher echelon of people who are immune to the same scrutiny everyone else is given.
