LHC coming online in August
Critics fear the Large Hadron Collider could exceed physicists' wildest conjectures: Will it spawn a black hole that could swallow Earth?

Unlikely, but that story sure gets a lot of free press. picked by PulsisX 1 year ago

Well, either the physicists are right and nothing will happen, or no one will be around to say I told you so :P

Thank you! This is my thought exactly, and no one seems to listen when I say it.

One way or another, the people claiming it will destroy the earth will shut the hell up when this thing is finally turned on.

I'm afraid something really cool will happen and it will be decided the world can't know about it - so they'll just make a press release "epic fail- sorry 'bout that"

Thanks for posting this, I read an article about it a year or two ago and havent been able to find it since. Basically no one knows whats going to happen, but imagine what doors this can open into the future. I'm really excited to find out what happens, but I am glad its not happening in the U.S. as well.....

Just before the first Atomic bomb was tested Oppenheimer told the generals that there was a chance that it could cause the whole atmosphere to ignite and explode in a chain reaction.

The generals told him he was "over thinking it".

Maybe ignorance is bliss but I don't think that anything globally catastrophic will happen when this thing starts up. Maybe some local chaos or some fundamentalists deciding only god should know such things. People won't be selling pocket black holes on ebay.
