Wow dude... very harsh. Ledgers performance was quite good so the more deserving part is quite debatable. And he wasn't a drug addict, the pills that were near him were prescription and it was determined, last I heard, that they weren't the cause of death.

I am speaking the truth as I see it. There was a lot of oddness behind the death. The fact that those particular pills were prescribed doesn't mean he was just another in a long long history of young drug users who died.

My point is he was a drug user. Who cares about that, I certainly don't but he was no God like some die-hard fans are making him out to be.

The oscars like any other voting process has always been about much more than just the best nominee.

His death will give him more than enough sympathy votes to get the statue. Was he good in the role? Perhaps. Was he the best of they year? Perhaps, but doubtful. What isn't doubtful is a large percentage of his expected winning is because of his death.

Have I seen the movie? Have you seen every single movie made this year to make the decision that his portrayal was the best? My point was not that he wasn't good in the role but that he will gain sympathy votes that will likely put him over the edge. It is quite possible that he will win based on sympathy and not his talent in playing a character like the Joker.

You're right it is a popularity contest. It isn't supposed to be, but it is. That was my point. As in any popularity contest, dying will garner you many votes that would have gone to another.

I didn't say he was any less of a person for using drugs. My god I would assume that a larger number of us have used drugs at some point. Even if they don't, they are probably addicted to other drugs that are detrimental but are accepted because they are legal, i.e. caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, etc

My point wasn't to detract from him because he was a drug user, but just to comment that he is just another young actor who died early - quite possibly from drugs (prescribed or otherwise). My point was not to detract from him, but to bring him off the pedestal that a certain group has put him on.

I don't think it was going off topic either. That was my point. My reply to your quote that Heath is expected to win an oscar even before 1/2 the year's movies are shown does not equal going off topic. (Your quote remarked on Heath, not you yourself)

As I said, even if you didn't quote it, it would be on topic.

My points are

1) Dying will always gain you sympathy votes in a contest like the oscars. It has in the past, it will now and it will in the future.

2)Heath Ledger was just another young actor who died way before his time. The absolute worship that is given to him is a bit excessive, but understandable because of his dying.
