PlayStation 2 Component Incites African War
PlayStation 2 Component Incites African War
For the past decade the search for a rare metal necessary in the manufacturing of Sony's Playstation 2 game console has fueled a brutal conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Currently, the Playstation 2 is the best-selling video game console of all-time, having sold through over 140 million units. picked by punthe 3 months ago

I just don't get how we can blame Sony...That's like saying it's my bosses fault that I robbed the bank to fund the drug purchase that I traded in for computer chips that were used to make our company's new PCs just because my boss told me he wants his Minesweeper to load quicker.

Bah.

I'm sure plenty of Japenese children were beaten during the building of my XBox, XBox360 and WII.

Blame the people doing it...I didn't ask them to send kids into the mines to die..they took that step all on their own...I would have been fine with them just sending OLD people in the mines to die. :)

Sony is being used as a scapegoat. After being refined the resulting material is called xxx and is used in a number of high tech items.

Tantalum is used to make cell phones, laptops and other electronics made, for example, by SONY, a multi-billion dollar multinational based in Japan that manufactures the iconic PlayStation, a video game console.
Calling it the "Playstation War" is probably some media term to generate interest. Sony is only one company among, I will guess, MANY that use this material. I do agree with Fizz71 though. Point blame where blame is due.

I remember back when the PS2 came out, they claimed it was so advanced that dictators were using the microchips as missile guidance systems.

I say we cut out the middle man. How about they hook up guns via the internet to your playstation. You can then see rebels and shoot them and wrack up points. We've been engaging in virtual bloodbaths for years. Now, Sony can take it to the next level: Play the real life bloodbath war game, all that for only the low price of 49.95! There's going to be nothing quite so satisfying as a middle aged dude with no girlfriend sitting in his underwear on his couch with his two-day old growth and a beer killing 13-year-olds with AK-47's half a world away. Now, that's entertainment!
