what about those people that can't stand up for the entire time the train is in motion? should they change their schedules so they can be on the train when the seats are available?

i thought being seated had a safety advantage, as well.

Getting to sit on a NYC subway train during rush hour has about the same odds as winning the lottery.

Even if you get on the first stop. At one point, my station was so crowded there were times you couldn't get down the steps to the platform.

I started riding an express train back to the beginning of the line (about 10 minutes) then catching my local train at the first stop so I could get a seat. Sometimes, I'd have to wait for a second train before that would happen.

Glad I take the railroad now.

Ok, stupid question:

Why not increase the frequency of trains or add cars during rush hour, to make the train longer?
(maybe they're already as long as the stations allow... but what about the frequency?)

Oh, you're being rational?
