I don't find it patronizing at all. :) Interestingly, I used to think Fat Bottom Girls (by Queen) was patronizing, until one day it just clicked. Now I love that song, and I sing it at the top of my lungs when it comes on.

Also, just a note, look at the men who sing these songs. Skinny as hell. WTF?

Sure, those girls have really pretty faces and curves and I don't want to take anything from that...

I think I would rather celebrate "healthy" curves.

I'm a big girl, too. And I don't think this is a "fetish" any more than celebrating skinny women would be considered "fetish". It's no biggie, really. :)

Actually, I'm as big as those girls in the videos, and (as I just got a physical) I'm perfectly healthy. There is no such thing as 'healthy curves' because every.single.person.is.different.

It's nothing personal, and I know you absolutely do not mean it in an antagonizing way; but I cringe every time anyone says anything like that.

Actually - I am too. And I've never had high blood pressure or high cholesterol - always have great physicals. That doesn't mean a life time of health. that means *right now*. I'm active and never let my size get in the way of things. But it's still hard on the joints, bones, lots of stuff.

No one should ever be loved "in spite of" anything.

Society puts big girls down so much that I personally want to shake Mika's hand. I think he has done a lot to put a confidence boost back into the lives of girls that need it most.

"Big girls" are commonly insulted and considered ugly by a society that idolises unhealthy stick figures. I love that a star can come out and and say "screw you" to conventions and say what he really likes.

No one said anything about worshipping "fat" people. I think the intent of the song is more to give bigger women 3 minutes in the spotlight. Women built like 10 year old boys get the spotlight the rest of the time.
