DNA extracted from a 38,000-year-old Neanderthal bone has just enabled scientists to sequence the complete mitochondrial genome for the human-like species.

I had a good friend in undergrad that greatly resembled a Neanderthal. Seriously!
A protruding brow ridge, broad flattened bridge of the nose and rather prognathus ( a fancimous two dollar word used to decribe a "robust jaw line")
Funny enough, he was majoring in anthropology.
We always held him up as evidence of possible interbreeding.
