I have constantly pondered why anime characters don't have asiatic-type eyes...

Do we really think if they all look like they've had way too much coffee that morning that we'll take the characters as more believable?

Speaking of photoshop, that pic of the girl in the blog HAS to be chopped. There is NO way her eyes are that big. I would love to see a real person with these things on.

EDIT: Okay, I have checked out the pics on the blog site. IMO, the contacts just make the Asian women look less Asian.

I was thinking this too. maybe it's an attempt to try to look more american. well i think people should just be happy with what they got. but on the other hand if you don't like something about yourself why not change.

Well, first off, the anime style was originally based off Walt Disney's designs, especially Mickey Mouse. The large eyes allow them to be more expressive.
Second, many anime's are not set in Japan, or Asia, or even Earth.
Lastly, there's more than one style of anime. A lot of the more serious series have more realistic eyes, while more light hearted series have the large, expressive eyes.

Also, don't forget Mushishi, which not only uses only asian style eyes, but the majority of the characters have black irises.

So right. 'Sailor Moon' and 'Tekon Kinurto' are both Japanimation and yet they're worlds appart, both in theme as in style.
There's a lot more to anime than meets the eye (pardon the pun).
