The rare plant that towers over owner's house after Britain's barmy weather causes it to grow 25ft in 'a few weeks'
For more than a quarter of a century, it had been nothing more than a clump of spiky leaves. Then the plant suddenly burst through the centre and grew and grew and grew, shooting up 25ft in a matter of weeks and bursting into yellow-green flowers. picked by AutumnLotus 1 year ago

Nothing new to people who have been to Southwestern USA.... but certainly new to those folks.

Funny, that happened to my brother years ago. One day he had a small UPL (unidentified plant life) growing next to his house. It suddenly started growing and in a couple of weeks it reached the roof of the 2 story house and continued growing. We did call it the magic beanstalk.

The hummingbirds around here love the agave. They're all over--usually can find a few blooming.

Interesting stuff. I'm going to stand out in that barmy weather naked and hope for the best.

That is the definition of community I believe, like minded individuals. I'm glad your minds are in the gutter (or bottle) as much as mine is.

We had a couple of those bloom in our backyard. (New Mexico) They "sprout" a huge sort of stalk in a freaky-short amount of time. Usually over a week or so. They grow prolifically here and they usually take 25 or so years to bloom. Then the plant dies off but usually has reproduced in some number over the years. Guy up the street just had his bloom. The one in that picture is extraordinarily large. But was probably very happy with all that moisture.

She said she couldn't reach the top from her window. Given the picture, I have to question if she could have reached the top if it were even with her window, unless she has unusually long arms.

I wondered if there was some crazy gamma ray burst or something this year. Both myself in SoCal and a friend in Tenn have plants that grew VERY rapidly and bloomed profusely this spring.

I had a rose 'bush' that was just a clump of 6 inch sticks, and had bloomed maybe 6 times in 3 years. Suddenly a stalk grew 3 feet in just a couple of weeks, and then had 5 blossoms on the end of it at once!!

Nice that this little plant finally started growing, but wow, that was a LOT!
