As much as I like Obama (and want him to be in charge of my neighbours to the south), I think he essentially has a target painted on him.

Aside from that, I can't believe there are still people so backwards they are afraid of a man of colour leading their nation. Come on, guys! It's 2008!

People were worried when a Catholic man became President. And that was 1960. I just want the person in charge to be good for the country. I could careless if they are black, white, Catholic, or whatever. It shouldn't make a difference. I have never understood that thinking.

There is no reason to assume the reason he was going to be assassinated was because he is black.

People have other reasons to kill Obama, and being black is probably near the bottom of the list.

It's as if we believe that if you don't agree with Obama, or don't like him, you MUST be racist, because there's no way that you can't not support socialistic policies.

I don't think there is any serious organized danger to Obama. These guys are just a couple of loons who had no clue what they were getting into. The podium probably had more to fear from these guys than the speaker at it.

The Meth alone tips you off to the lack of trainign and discipline that they would need to be able to... secure a vantage point, wait there, aim from the distance required, and steady the shot accounting for wind/distance/etc.

I don't know where you live but it must be very nice. I have been to many places in the US and there are racists all over that still find plenty of energy to dislike people simply for the color of their flesh, maybe its the hair. Being a "whitey" myself I have found that racist white folks will just assume that I share their views of the world and the order of things, and make comments or whatnot to me. Let me point out for you that "Full" black or half black or anything other than white will be looked down on by racists. It is quite charming that you bother to make that type of distinction. I am sure one day when you leave your paradise you will look back and laugh at your naive take on things.

I agree that there are plenty of things to disagree with Obama about but don't think any would put him on a list of people that should be killed. I also agree that some people that may be uptight about race issues may try to paint any disagreement as race based. I guess that is easier than admitting that Obama may have a less than wonderful idea about some subjects.

It's stated even in my link description that the perps had connections to White Supremacist organizations. How hard can it be to read even the description, even if the article is too long?

Anyway. As for people who'd seriously want him dead, I'd say race would be still number one. US still has a fairly adequate supply of ignorant racist morons. If you have better reasons wanting him dead, please share with us.

Tell that to Pres. Lincoln or Kennedy. Neither was assassinated by a "professional". John Hinckley wasn't a Pro, either...but it was only luck that kept Regan alive.

I don't think it takes a Professional, just someone with enough intellect to think ahead and a willingness to die for their cause.

It makes you wonder how people just blow it off, especially when so many others have succeeded in assassinating a black man in power.

I personally think that the authorities should take this seriously, because it will not be the last time. I fear for his life, but at the same time I hope he wins.

He had secret service protection earlier than any other candidate in history, I don't think that was because of his political views.. Some people are just racist, it's that simple.. Not everyone that tries to kill a president is racist but these ones were.

And noones saying that if you don't believe in Obama you're a racist, just saying that there are people that are racist. But by defending their actions are you supporting racism or assassination? I don't think anyone should have a reason to kill a presidential candidate.. maybe not to vote for them.. but killing?
