Sarah Palin's 17 year old daughter is 5 months pregnant
Sarah Palin's 17 year old daughter is 5 months pregnant
John McCain's running mate Sarah Palin , presumptive Republic VP nominee and staunch pro-life conservative, has announced her 17 year old daughter in pregnant. So much for abstinence only sex education.

"Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family," they added.
The father was identified in the statement as Levi, but the campaign said it was not disclosing his full name or age or how he and Bristol know each other, citing privacy." picked by BADbud 1 year ago

I was reading that earlier today. It doesn't matter to me. One of Cheney's daughters is a lesbian, it doesn't matter to me.

I think it speaks to the point that abstinence only sex "education", which she wholeheartedly supports, does not work.

but they will still divorce within a year.

having babies will NOT fix a bad relationship, and pregnancy is NOT a reason for getting married.

birth control is not abortion, it circumvents bad outcomes like this.

I have to agree with Suebe here. Who cares? Nobody is perfect. Knowing that they have challenges to overcome makes them more human.

Edit: I actually meant to quote suebe. Ooops. Darn...my glasses are upstairs!

If she was then Palin would get my vote. I always vote on the character of someone's relatives. :P

Seriously, even if someone is moral, and fair, and frugal, it doesn't mean anything to how their son/daughter/brother/cousin/uncle/parents lead their lives.

Yes, she could have influenced her, but there is no guarantee that she is a carbon copy of her mothers values system.

And sex ed which teaches kids how to use contraception is 100% effective in preventing teen pregnancy?

I don't see why her daughter being pregnant is any amount of important, other than for judgmental gossip.

Being a young grandmother has nothing to do with her political ability.

Ditto for the whole Clinton-Lewinsky "scandal". His infidelity is his own, personal deal and has nothing to do with his leadership ability.

*I do not support or not support either of the politicians I just mentioned. I just don't think that their personal lives have anything to do with their political lives.

I think the timing to announce this was a bit interesting. Okay, a hurricane makes a landfall in Louisiana - it can possibly be an enormous story that takes up all news space for weeks.

OMFG A HURRICANE! A HURRICANE!

And by the way, my teenage daughter is pregnant.

But... A HURRICANE!

Edit: I also wonder how much the marriage was the idea of the "couple", and how much it's a political shotgun wedding.

Too bad it was a wussy hurricane and the news cycle is gonna shift back tomorrow morning!

In that case I'd vote for her mother if she ran off, had an abortion and became a logging camp stripper.

to the boyfriend of the daughter of the VP pick.

I wonder what the father of the boyfriend of the daughter of the VP picks answers are regarding peace in the Middle East?

I don't think these low-brow tactics from left wing extremists are going to work well for the (D)'s

I agree that this little scandal shouldn't be politicized and that to do so would be very bad taste, but at the same time imagine if the situation were reversed. And be completely honest with yourselves. Do you really HONESTLY think John McCain wouldn't have an ad condemning Obama's leadership qualities [he expects to lead a country, but he can't even manage his own family] and his moral fiber by now? And don't you think the majority of Republicans wouldn't eat it up and take it as a sign of his corrupt morals wearing off on his children.

But it happens to one of them and Sarah Palin automatically becomes a hero and anyone who even dares judge her needs to be condemned. Barack Obama even issues a statement asking people to respect her privacy instead of immediately firing off an ad to his advantage, and he still gets blamed for leaking this to the press. If a governer's kid is 5 months pregnant, all it takes is one talkative local to leak that.

I'm just saying.

The humour of all this is that this actually might have some effect on some people's opinion on her. No, it's not "leftist extremist" smear campaign, it's extreme right-wing self smear campaign.

And for a non-american following the whole drama, it's just amusing. Most people who point and laugh don't laugh at the "incident" itself, which, - a teenager pregnant to a stereotypical jock - isn't really unheard of. The fun comes from the fact that it sounds like McCain campaign sees it as aPR problem, and the inevitable furor by right wing Bible thumpers.

Just as a point of note... the Clinton/Lewinsky thing became a "big deal" after Clinton lied under oath about it. The whole, "It depends on the definition of what "is" is, defense." You can argue it should have never gotten that far... but don't confuse that and the true "scandal." Lying under oath is a federal offense... and while not arrested, or jailed... he did lose his law license (at least for a period) because of it.

Is there any evidence of that? I think a lot of the time, when there are these "You know if..." statements, they're not necessarily based in "obvious" reality, they think they are.

After all, didn't McCain say that Obama's wife was off limits, when people were attacking her? If the wife is, surely the daughter is. I don't see how you could guess differently.
