 Parents protest segregation in school.
Parents protest segregation in school.
Not for race, creed or color, but for hot or cold lunch. Some people just have to protest for the sake of hearing their own voices. picked by tomphoolry 3 years ago

The school is trying to use safety to protect some children from a potentially fatal condition and some parents have a problem with it? Unbelievable.

The whole peanut issue is a big deal.

My kid would die if he couldn't have his PB&J sammich.

He'd never eat lunch, unless the school had pizza, because he just doesn't eat the junk they serve.

I don't know if there is a good solution to this, but some day, they might just prohibit peanuts in school altogether. That would not be right, either.

I'm certainly sensitive to the kids, but when did peanuts become such a big deal? When I was in school, everyone ate together and the only problem was fairly trading snacks.

So what exactly are they protecting the kids from? Has there been a rash of rashes? Aren't the administrators busy enough seeing that the kids learn something? Seems that they are spending too much time thinking up crap to worry about instead of worring about their real job - education. If they need to worry about more, how about the stress that they are giving the kids by only allowing them 15 minutes to eat lunch.

I think it's just another case of school officials sticking their heads up their a$$es. When a child is truly in danger, they do nothing, but when the officials see a danger that isn't really there, they do stupid stuff like this. Idiots like these made my seventh and eightth grade years frightening and miserable.

although i agree that school administrators need to focus more on the education of the children and helping the teachers that a lot of the bullshiz they seem to be concerning themselves with nowadays....peanut allergies are really severe, for most people with peanut allergies its not a rash or an upset stomach its atleast a trip to the hospital or possibly death

i worked at a restaurant and whenever we had anything with peanut or peanut oil in it, we had to quarantine it from the other items. so if we had any baked goods with peanut (like peanut butter cookies or m&m cookies) we had to keep them in a seperate container. also if we touched any products with peanut oil we had to wash our hands several times...so peanut alergies are qutie severe

however i do think segregating the kids is a bit extreme....surely there has to be another way to deal with a situation like this. i mean are there that many kids at the school with a peanut allergy? wouldnt a better solution to be oh say encourage good hygiene amongst all the children by having them wash their hands after they eat (or just use those awesome purell dispensers)

Marilyn Jerde "We've only been doing this for five days and so far it's been going very well, {as no children have died in the last five days of peanut allergies, not only in our school but across the whole state!}"
.... Fixed the end of that sentence for her. As with most of the problems that school administrators [mis]handle, properly educating the students (gee who would have thought of that) about these allergies would be the most effective preventative measure.

I had a few friends in school with peanut allergies. We weren't segregated. And yet, they somehow managed to survive elementary school. If it's not broken, don't fix it.

That's the first thing I thought of, too. We complained about having only 25 minutes!
