She doesn't even get to the issue until midway through the third large paragraph and then she puts off the apology until the paragraph after... I don't think she's really sorry she did it, only sorry she got caught.

Why is this bigger news than the fact check of her speech?

Cause it's SCANDALOUS!

not bigger news but every politician makes out right lies, stretches the truth, and puts their own interpretation on the truth. Both McCain and Obama have certainly told outright complete lies to further their own agenda. Biden has and yes, Palin.

It is to be expected. It is interesting and important to learn the truth which is why among others is important.

This isn't some politician spinning or even lying. This is a recorded bit of true feelings. It is a bit more shocking.

It is sort of like when Jessie Jackson got busted calling Obama a N****. He ultimately got away with it of course, but it was huge news for a while

No politician/pundit can be trusted to give their honest beliefs. It's all a game of half-truths.

They were wrong, too.

Which makes it that much sweeter.

As a media guy... this didn't really surprise me at all for two reasons.

(1) It was MSNBC, and they have a history of trying to pass of week Republicans/Conservatives, as mainstreamers. Their big guy is Pat Buchanan... come on, he hasn't been relevant in the party for YEARS! So to find out that they have some more... meh, not that surprising.

(2) Are you really surprised that some pundits don't really believe what they say? They're characters... trying to represent a point-of-view, play devil's advocate... they don't really HAVE to believe what they're talking about!


Anyway, around the media circles, the big story is how was this story leaked? The time between the clip was recorded, and the time that it made it to the web (and the left-wing websites), was pretty short. Some wonder if it was MSNBC itself... some think it was someone inside... and other's figure it could have just been pulled off a satellite by some guy at a TV station.

That was the weakest apology I've ever read. She basically danced around saying, "Sorry I cursed and let slip my true feelings, but they weren't real feelings anyway, just what I would say not on camera." I would've respected her more if she said, "Oops. You caught me. I actually think x about the pick and I should've said so, but my one sidedness got the better of me. Oh well."
