In November 2006, RSPCA officers intervened when they discovered that brothers Derek and David Benton had allowed their chocolate labrador Rusty to reach over 11 stone (70kg) in weight.
After being convicted of mistreating the dog in January 2007, Rusty was returned to the Benton brothers on the proviso they follow a strict diet and Rusty be subject to regular checks on his health by the RSPCA.
