Cheating your sweet-tooth may not work out so well
Cheating your sweet-tooth may not work out so well
True or false: If you're trying to slim down, you should switch from sugar to an artificial sweetener.

The answer may be false. According to early studies, the fake stuff could actually lead to overeating. picked by maven 1 year ago

Give me some sugar, baby.
Eating fiber-rich fruit could keep you from gaining weight.

Coming from one that's averaged a loss of ½ pound a day for the last 30 days.. forget about freaking sweets, artificial or otherwise.

I'm in favor of real sugars. :) All the fake ones give me a migraine, though, so I admit my bias.

Plus, the fake sweeteners don't bake properly.

It's a common affliction. I've been told there's no cure.

Artificial sweeteners really aren't great for you anyway and they sure don't taste much like sugar to me. If you're gonna be bad, go all the way, do it right.

I'm sorry, I cannot live without my Splenda.

But you really do have to learn how to cut out the sweets. There are plenty of healthy substitutes you can make and still satisfy that sweet tooth.

My doctor was telling me about this. She mentioned diet drinks. I am diet coke drinker. But only one a day. She said even that could do it. Where I think it is interesting and likely true, I have to ask: then my weight gain has nothing whatsoever to do with all the junk I eat? hahaha. Sorry I couldn't resist!

I snack on yogurt covered pretzels and cherry-flavored M&Ms to control my sweet tooth. They're so sweet that after more than three pretzels and six M&Ms, I damn near have a toothache. Much more satisfying and much less fattening than eating half a pack of cookies.

Eeww...I can't stand those cherry M&M's. Ick!

But, the point is that a moderate amount of real sugar is more satisfying to the body than eating a larger quantity of fake sweeteners, and people end up eating more calories overall.

so wait - I'm drinking a diet pepsi and eating a small sleeve of gummy savers (first sweet tooth I've had in months). Does that mean they cancel each other out?
