Eoin Colfer to write sixth Hitchhiker's Guide book
Eoin Colfer to write sixth Hitchhiker's Guide book
Douglas Adams's increasingly inaccurately named Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy is to be extended to six titles, after Adams's widow Jane Belson sanctioned Eoin Colfer to continue the series. picked by 2manyusernames 1 year ago

the man writes children/teenager books.

??? !!!

Are we going to have Harry Potter-type person team up with Ford Prefect?

Has anyone read his Artemis Fowl books? Are they the least bit funny? Do they share any of Adams unique brand of comedy?

Greed may be good at times, but I think this is just wrong and an insult. (never reading any of Colfer's books, this is just an assumption)

Wrong... on so many levels it is not even funny... I refuse to read it.

Okay, Colfer is not a bad writer per say, but he is NOT Douglas Adams. We don't want another hitchhiker book, we want the author!

This is like a sequel to Romeo and Juliet written by Jackie Collins.

This makes me nauseous. This is nothing more than the publishing company trying to capitalize on a well-established (and respected) brand name.

I get the sinking feeling that this will be "almost but not quite totally unlike" the real thing.

Okay, you negative Nancys.

The book isn't even out yet and already you're condemning it.

Adam's widow personally requested this guy and I would like to think that a widow would like to see her deceased husband's legacy thrive, not wither.

I say, let's give it a chance. If he botches it up then we hang him and cut off his "stuff."

I read the artimis foul books once upon a time, I think that his writing style could possibly do a semblance of justice to Adams. He's capable, there was a certain wit and underlying something that reminds me of Adams in the Artimis Foul books (though I can't say this for sure as it's been a long time since I've actually read them). We'll just have to see. My gut is still horrified that this is being attempted, but I am trying to be optimistic. I'll read it, at least.

Its still not the same. Even if they were good, it doesn't feel right. Its like if someone went ahead and continued the star wars plot through more movies. Wait, that would probably be a good thing.

The Disney movie Aladdin had Robin Williams as the voice of the Genie. The second movie had some other persons voice, trying to be Robin Williams as the genie and it failed miserably. They brought back Williams for the third one and the genie was once again the "real deal".

This sound like the same scenario, although the return of Douglas Adams is almost certainly not going to happen, unless he is just riding in a ship with the Probability Drive. In that case, it just might.

I'm sure she would, especially when there's money involved.

An author's legacy does not wither just because he can no longer write. If that was the case, people would have stopped talking about Shakespeare and Chaucer centuries ago.

I heard an interview with him on the radio this morning. It pretty much boiled down to him saying that he would take the characters but make no attempt to emulate Douglas Adam's writing style.

So I suggest everyone give their "stuff" cutters a pre-emptive sharpen.

Or dulling, depending on how you want it to go.

I really don't think this is a good idea. I'm sure he's a very competent author and all, but trying to match or top Adams is the biggest literary mistake since Naomi Campbell was let loose on a typewriter.
