Did anyone else have the feeling where they just couldn't stop reading for some reason even though it was one of the most disturbing things ever?

In all fairness, me thinks this is pretty innocent from a childs perspective.

The fact that an adult wrote it.. now that is what's creepy.

Single women with daddy issues, often known as strippers, are a necessary party of society.

Book was a bit off putting however.

Mom goes away on a business trip. Fine. Little girl takes on the role as mom. ok. Little girl wants to marry daddy. Pretty typical actually. Daddy tells her she is beautiful. Of course he does. Then something goes horribly wrong. It took some creepy demented turn. Now I will have bad dreams. And the creeps all day. /shudders/

What's creepier is that it's all being presented as the child's idea.

It wasn't really all that bad, until the last couple pages.

How the hell did that book get published? You know how hard it is to get a book published?

Its probably just a very old book... 50s-70s maybe? I remember having similar kind of books when I was growing up in the 80s. I get that the last page is creepy to adults, but to kids its a cute book!

i've heard of "vanity publishers," who'll publish anything they're paid to publish. the expense of materials and selling the printed book is all on the person paying the vanity publisher.

this reminds me of another news submission presenting a ridiculous children's book about a pony learning about drugs and alcohol, but i can't find the link to it.

FWIW, a lot of old children's books are very odd by today's standards. I think that the book is merely stating that it's very normal (because it is, actually) for little children to want to "marry" their parents (and even older siblings). They're not aware of what incest is - they only know that they see their own parents in a close, married relationship, and they have a close relationship with their own parents, so it stands to reason (in their mind) that one day they can also marry their parents. Weird, yes, but to a little kid it makes sense.

My oldest went through a phase where she constantly would tell me that she wanted to marry me when she grew up. It's a developmental thing - with enough gentle explaining from me, over time, she finally let go of the idea.
