I remember I was sitting in my high school lunchroom as the news started to spread. That was the first time I felt such loss for someone other than a family member. The loss of one of my first true heroes.

He was truly ahead of his time. I don't remember what I was doing when he was shot, but in high school a student made a terrible remark in class about bringing the Beatles back together--with the use of 3 more bullets--the teacher laughed out loud. I stood up and went off on both of them. I was kind of out spoken as a kid. I went on about how disrespectful that was and in utter poor taste. The class was stone cold silent, and the teacher sobered up almost instantly.
