Whatever the lady's motives (perhaps she wanted to go to jail, or maybe she was hungry and had no money), this is what's called "working harder, not smarter". It's costing taxpayers more than seven or eight bucks to incarcerate her. Why not work smarter? If the cops can just summarily lock her up for the weekend without a trial, then why can't they just compel her to pay her bill? Why can't they compel her to pay it off within some period of time? Why can't the restaurant just learn not to serve her in the future?

I am guessing that she refuses to pay over a matter of principle - the food was probably lousy and she refused to pay for it. Great public relations on the part of the restaurant: they will probably have a trial in which the defendant will argue as her defence that the food was inedible and she should not be required to pay. Imagine how much revenue they will lose if she is acquitted based on a finding that the food was vomiticious (yes I know there is no such word).
