Vista Is Dead - Long Live Windows 7*
Vista Is Dead - Long Live Windows 7*
*or not - depends on your preference.

Less than two years after the launch of Vista, Windows 7 was announced by Microsoft today. At the moment it looks a lot like what Vista would have been if it were finished when it was released, and what it should have become at SP1.

Here's a bluffer's guide if you want to know the essential details of the next OS from MS. picked by pocksucket 1 year ago

No - that was me - it's Windows 7 and the * lead onto the "or not" in the description.

Fairly superfluous when I think about it. The description usually does follow the title.

And as for 2000, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Maybe not money, but definitely my bandwidth. I'm so going to get this on bittorent.

Vista on it's own is fine, but it consumes vram, even when everything is covered up by a game, resulting in way worse performance. Vista is crap for playing games, and that's just about all windows is good for to begin with.

The reviewer at Gizmodo bangs on about how Windows 7 allows you to put gadgets from the sidebar anywhere on the screen. I can do that on Vista (?!) Has this guy ever used Vista or am I confused here?

I think I'll be sticking with XP at least for now, does what I want, when I want.

Agreeing with Pocksucket: If it's not broken...

People b***hed about Vista..hell Mac based their entire advertising campain on it...so Microsoft is responding. Now we complain about that?

I'm sorry...but as much as I recognize Microsoft constantly releasing new versions of sofware is a pain..(I have 4 versions of visual studio and about 5 version of MS-SQL products on my work machine)..I think this version upgrade was needed. If only to shut MAC the hell up!

I can't believe you were downvoted for that. Even if you are an idiot. :)

I know I read that part and I was like ... ok if you say so. Apparently he has never tried pulling them off the dock. I actually liked the dock so much I made a clock, calendar, and note pad in flash and set my background to an HTML (because I am still using XP).

It funny because I think that comment was at 15 or 20 last time I saw.

What I want in a PC is the ability to put in mods for Impossible Creatures, play older games, and run programs with Command Prompt. Vista does not let me do these things.

What I want is a Mac is the ability to quickly and easily make movies with a lot of special effects, and put any music I want on my iPod. Leopard does not let me do these things.

Ironically, Vista is much easier to use and more secure, but cannot run most games, making it like Mac used to be.

Leopard can run more games than ever, with the downside that it is retarded. It is much like Windows used to be.

Don't know if will help or not as I've not looked into it in any great depth, but MS are recognising the threat that Linux poses and that one of it's great strengths is the power of the Linux CLI.

To counter this they have made available (but neglected to tell anyone) the Windows PowerShell.

You might want to check it out.
