Parents queue to select baby gender
Parents queue to select baby gender
Like many a story, it started out with a simple conversation with a friend.

Is that really possible? I remember asking, before going straight home to my laptop and typing the words "gender selection" in the search engine. picked by DAVEthefish 1 year ago

That's not fair.. I say they should let the kids decide if they want to be boys or girls

I don't think fairness comes into it...

The child will never know what it was 'supposed' to be (even though it's not pre-determined, so 'supposed' doesn't even come into it).

Personally, I think this is a great idea. I'd do it, for sure; I'd be disappointed to have a baby girl.

actually this is on par with an idea I had a while ago.. about how to figure out how to have a baby of a different race. Science is moving kinda slow though. But what's next? If it is something with the genese and they say homosexuality is something in the genes or you're born with.. does this mean soon there will be a way to remove it and parents can pay to have a homosexual child or a straight child?

Yes!
Soon, we'll all be like China, where millions of men are now facing the prospect of dying bachelors, unable to have a family of their own because millions of couples throughout history, never wanted a girl and the population rate is tremendously unbalanced!!!
Awesome!

EDIT:
I just remembered... you know how they say one of the main reasons why young men in middle eastern countries are so easily lured into terrorism is the promise of having 70 something virgins waiting for them after death, and this works because there's a very small number of available women in these countries, where richer men get to have multiple wives and the poor get to have 0?

Yeah, this will work fine, won't it? More men, less women – ah… finally, the answer to all Humanity’s problems, heh?

Nature runs a loto on this for a reason, you know?

Cynical, bitter me thinks:

well, if this is available globally, there's a chance we won't reproduce our race out of existance. Population control.... we need it to combat the people who think it's a great idea to have 20 kids.

Population control can be achieved without crazy mesures like limiting the births of females (most couples want boys, we all know that... even where it doesn't matter anymore - ex:for legal reasons or keeping the family name)

From what I hear if your child isn't the gender you prefer just drop them off somewhere in Nebraska.

Yes! And what do you think of that?

Conflicted. I can imagine cases where the "child" may benefit. Its also too easy for a parent to abdicate all responsibility for their child in favor of focusing (selfishly) on what they desire.

I guess, like most things, there are positive aspects and negative as well.
