I lost 8st simply by giving up Coke Posted: 1 year ago by davethefish
Forget Diet Coke - Jason Morgan had to go on a Coke diet. The lorry driver lost 54kg (eight-and-a-half stone) after quitting his 10litre-a-day Coke habit.

The 32-year-old had ballooned to nearly 150kg (24st) after swigging the equivalent of 30 cans of Coca-Cola a day.

OK, just for fun let's do a little maths here.

According to Wikipedia 2.5 gallons of Coke contains 30lbs of sugar.

That's 11 365 ml (which is important).

One standard UK can of coke is 330ml

2.5 gallons of Coke, therefore, comes in a 34 cans.

4 more than Mr Morgan drank a day.

If 34 cans contain 30lbs of sugar then 30 cans contain 26 and a quarter pounds of sugar.

So this man reduces his sugar intake by
over 26lbs a day and loses weight as a result.

I'd chance my arm to say that contrary to Weightwatchers' stance he's not an inspiration to anyone hoping to lose weight, more a demonstration of common sense in action.

That's just nuts.
I'd chance Pock's arm too to say if you give up 26 pounds of anything and you lose weight.

I'm having a hard time believing this story. 26 pounds of sugar a day? Come on, wouldn't that kill ya?

Whoa, some other things the wiki recipe states is that there are 2 1/2 gallons of water, thus this isn't 2 1/2 gallons of coke. There is 1qt lime juice, add up the ounces of other stuff and flavoring.

* Ingredients:
o 1 oz caffeine citrate
o 3 oz citric acid
o 1 fl oz extract vanilla
o 1 qt lime juice
o 2 oz flavoring
o 30 lb (14 kg) sugar
o 4 fl oz fluid extract of coca
o 2 gal water
o Caramel sufficient
* Flavoring:
o 80 Oil orange
o 40 Oil cinnamon
o 120 Oil lemon
o 20 Oil coriander
o 40 Oil nutmeg
o 40 Oil neroli
o 1 qt alcohol

If you eat, drink, consume overly high quantities of ANYTHING and then cut that out of your diet, you will lose weight (most likely)

I take your point - my maths was off there as I didn't factor in the volume of the other ingredients.

But (and I don't feel I'm contradicting you here) we get to a recipe involving 30lbs sugar and a person who consumes most (or even some) of that full volume then that person is going to be over weight.

As I've pointed out to people worrying about how many calories were in a one ounce bag of crisps* "eat that bag of crisps and you'll be one ounce heavier."

If I'd eat to maintain my current weight, and then add additional 10 litres of coke = 4500kcal/d, I'd gain ~1.3lbs a day from the calorie excess. About 470lbs a year (3500kcal = 1 pound).

Really? I just checked the can I've been sipping: 12 FL Oz/355 ml.

Is this why Americans are pudgier? Am I drinking 25 more ml of sugary caffinated goodness than you?

I am amused by people who get a Big Mac meal or whatever with a quarter pounder with large fries, and then get a diet coke. Yeah, that will really help.

My sister says at her work some of her coworkers will bring in one or two liters of coke and drink the whole thing while at their desks. Everyday.

I NEVER liked soda. I'm 24 and I don't thing I've had a glass of soda in my life (although I've had sips). When I am thirsty I really don't want to drink something sugary. I don't think I am missing anything though...
