Two comments on this. First off, on MSNBC, it appeared that by 'transgender' they mean crossdresser from this quote:

"I am a dude," he said. "I am a heterosexual male who appears to be a female."

I wish these articles were a little more in depth. I'm curious as to what KIND of transgender this mayor is.

Second of all, while this is wonderful news, it comes at a time where three states have banned gay marriage in thier consitution, and another banned gays from adopting. I can't say I'm proud of my generation or my country, since this is a pretty isolated case, and since 'Mayor' is a pretty minor title outside of big cities...
