Oh my...I just "stumbled upon" this today, and it cracked me up....I think the final e-mailing back the 8-legged spider without any questions was the best part.
hilarious!

That was fantastic.
If only it had worked.

I didn't notice it only had seven legs at first.

I wonder if he did the seven legs on purpose the first time to extend the process. :D

Made me think of the book Anansi Boys.

Good thing they didn't accept it - he had Massively undervalued that art piece!

Given it's new fame he should offer it on Ebay for double that amount ;)

Never heard of that book, but in Ghana (West Africa) there's an old tale of Anansi who is like a spider or a man or something inbetween. Quite interesting that there's a book with that name. I don't see any reference to Ghana though, or even other West-African countries (As stories are usually from different countries). Maybe Wikipedia just doesn't have all the details.

I liked the article simply because of the pic haha. Ankabout is Arabic for spider by the way...

It's by Neil Gaiman; it's about the god you're referencing, Anansi, who owns all the stories after he stole them from Tiger. Good book. Fun god.

I just read it up, Anansi's actually not a god, but he kinda acts on behalf of the sky god, Nyame. Nyame is actually the word used in Ghana for God in general. Kinda interesting. So the book is actually based on this story. Maybe I'll get one and read it. Thanks for the tip.

PS. I just realised all the articles are Spider-related. What's the deal with Plime themes and stuff now? I've been out of it so long I don't know what's going on haha.

Well, in some versions, he's a god. But so are all the other animals. He's a clever/wise trickster, who owns all the stories.

The book is um.. well, maybe you should read an excerpt before you buy it. It's fiction, not a retelling, exactly. It's wonderful, though!

Ank! You need to get the book, but it's the sequal to American Gods. Both are great books... And I think a third one is out or coming out.

There's also a popular series of children's books about Anansi and how he tries to trick the other animals into doing his work.

the itsy bitsy spider got emailed through the 'net
so poor ol' David Thorne could pay off his debt.
but Janey didn't like how it stopped at seven shins.
so the itsy bitsy spider got emailed back again.

and, sadly, that's the best i could do.

The spider is amazing and I could laugh at that article all day. It is also the inspiration behind:
