The Grantham Collection Of Abortion Instruments [GRAPHIC]
The Grantham Collection Of Abortion Instruments [GRAPHIC]
Quite an interesting collection here, although it definitely has a political purpose.
I know this post has potential for drama, but please let's try to keep it to a minimum. If you're not interested, simply do not click the link. picked by suckersklub 1 year ago

Interesting to see how many ways there were of dismembering a foetus...

A lot of them remind me of torture devices I encountered as part of a research project on the middle ages.

It's amazing how these instruments have evolved over the decades. I have to say, I'm surprised at the number of different tools used, but that's just because until now I've never really stopped to think about it. It's a practice that has been common for centuries, so the tools ought to have evolved over time as well. (What, no coat hangers??)

Definite political purpose: the foetus was never referred to as a foetus throughout the website, but as a child or baby instead. I also was a bit interested by the images of real babies - they were never of partially formed foetuses or embryos, but all of almost completely formed babies. I think using these images takes away from the collection, as they aren't being depicted as they were actually used.

Those images make it seem like these instruments were used for late-term abortions, instead of early pregnancies. Especially with the drawing at the end of the lady with the abortionist. The lady is almost to full term and picturing these instruments used on already-to-be-born foetuses is somewhat gruesome...

Where is the opening statement? I couldn't find it, but instead the gallery of modern abortion tools...

Right on top:

The most gruesome medical instruments ever made were designed for abortion.

The Grantham Collection condemns all abortion-related violence.

Some of the instruments illustrated in the collection were pretty scary looking but on the other hand, the descriptions offered for each was very interesting. They offer their own personal opinions on each while making sure they use the words that will catch the eye.

They want to give the wrong impression and are entitled to their opinions. Abortion is illegal where I'm from so I can't say I've ever known anyone who has gone through with it, but if they are willing to put themselves through this then I believe that's up to them.

Clearly there is a political purpose, many of the instruments listed are mislabeled or used for purposes other than what is described on the website. All it takes is a tiny bit of medical knowledge and google.

FYI, Prior to 1900 c-sections had a 90% mortality rate for the mother. So if for any reason a woman was not able to deliver the child in the traditional manner, it had to be removed.

As a result of your comment, I did take a tiny bit of medical knowledge and mixed it with google and have now wasted a solid hour of my morning. I find this morbidly fascinating. I've also renewed my reverence for modern medicine!

I'm always surprised to hear people who believe that banning abortion will make the practice stop. The practice of abortion has been around almost as long as the world's oldest profession, and banning it now will just make it unsafe for women who choose this option.
