I was put on anti-depressants after my brother died. The medication just made everything worse. Death is a natural occurrence and should be dealt with naturally and with time. Medicating someone for being depressed due to death is a horrible misuse of pharmaceutical abilities.

And geez, he's a parrot for f**k's sake.

It's like we're not allowed to feel human (or animal) emotions anymore. God forbid we are sad when something sad happens in our lives. Everyone is different - when someone dies in your life sometimes people find it harder to deal with than other people. Some people never get over a loved one dying. They are not broken, so stop trying to "fix" a problem that isn't there.

I was put on Prozac as a kid because my Mother thought I was depressed. I took myself off of it because I felt like it was screwing with me (I stopped dreaming when I was on it, which freaked me out). As an adult I know my depression was caused by my unstable environment and not by some chemical imbalance.

The bird was plucking feathers, though. That is harmful for them. If medicine helps him to not be self destructive, so be it. Yes, its "just a bird" but it is someones pet. People get attached to their pets and dont want to see them suffer. What else can they do? Put the bird in therapy? Get it to talk about its feelings? You cannot reason with something that cannot effectively communicate.

Yes, sometimes medication can really be a boon to an animal that is suffering. I have known dogs who have taken off a tremendous amount of their fur due to depression. A low dosage on antidepressants makes them much less prone to doing that. If it makes them feel better, what is the problem?

Well, it is a parrot. :P

Reminds me of the last bass player in the band in which I play. :)

Awwww. I'm so glad they found a way to help him. He could have become very physically ill, too.

I just want to "ruffle his feathers".
