Also ironic that he would accuse Disney of encouraging greed when his religion venerates huge treasures in the Vatican and extensive inclusion of treasure when building cathedrals.

The "You need us theme" exists in most religions.

I find this quote particularly interesting: "Where once morality and meaning were available as part of our free cultural inheritance, now corporations sell them to us as products."

The interesting part is the fact that the Catholic church began the practice of selling "indulgences" during the Middle Ages. The basic concept was that by giving money to the church, you could buy forgiveness for certain sins (an erroneous theological construct that directly caused the Reformation, and the schism of the Christian faith into its present form).

The Catholic church would do well to consider this before commenting on the "commercialization of morality."

I agree that people need to live more simply, but organized religions are seldom part of that, for me. I see more competition and avarice from some of the devout than I do from the average Disney loving child.

If you're raised thinking that you can't be happy unless you get the newest greatest thing, you won't be. Pretty simple, happiness is a choice, not a product or a good or anything that you'll find in a building or a mall.

Instead of blaming Disney for children's greed, maybe he should try blaming parents for buying all the Disney junk to placate the whiny kids. If you notice Disney does a great job of taking care of the whole parent problem by killing them off...well at least one of them.
